I am a French resident with a Livebox. My region is prone to thunderstorms and this has damaged 2 liveboxes and 3 siemens Gigaset cordless phones. My question is, can I use a different modem/router with the Orange service ? If the answer is yes, what kind of router etc should look for and would it be easy for me to configure ?I rent the livebox and would prefer to have my own system.
Any help welcome

From my experience with routers Netgears are the easiest to configure.
Yes, I installed a Netgear DG834 wired router at 03:30 in the morning
today, whilst suffering from bleary-eyed insomnia, and it was truly
a no-brainer!

So am I.....Have the same problem as you but own the boxes. the first box was replaced but the second started not receiving ethernet connection, put the other new box on and same problem after a couple of days....WiFi works fine on all boxes and know it's not the computer end....I'm now going to buy a Netgear DG834N when "Darty" get some more in and hope that fixes the issue.
Many thanks to all the people who replied to my post. It is good to know I am not the only one who has had problems with the livebox.
Well I have taken the plunge and bought a netgear DG834 GFS which has 4 ethernet ports and is wireless also. I would rather have done without the wireless side but they are harder to find than I thought. The ordinary Netgear without wireless was more expensive in Darty than the other one from Cora. I am going to brace myself and install later today. Then I can return the livebox and have no more problems,

I used the phone service but it was so un- reliable I had it taken off. Now I just use the voip on Skype and buy the top on paypal so easy and no commitment.
