I wondered if anyone else has had the same problem as me with their rubbish Wanadoo/Orange internet.
Back in January 2006 I signed up for the Wanadoo wireless and talk package that was advertised on tv as upto 8mb speed for £14.99 per month for the first six months, and £17.99 per month after 6 months and £4 per month for the wireless and talk.
I've been paying £21.99 now since my contract ran out in January 2007, and since we're moving house (and due to the poor internet speed and stability) we decided to cancel the contract and go elsewhere.
I've phoned recently to try to get a refund for the amount of downtime I've had, and I was told that I'm only on an upto 2 mb service, and my Orange account on their website says the same. I managed to speak to a supervisor who confirmed the same, and had the cheek to tell me that when I signed up to Wanadoo they didn't have 8mb internet at that price
I've already written to them to express my disgust, but I'm seriously considering taking it further.
I found this article on the ASA website about the misleading adverts, and it clearly states that the offer is for 8mb broadband for £14.99 per month, and £17.99 per month after the first six months with £4 for wireless and talk.
I was told my internet connection was capped at 2mb for some reason, even though when they did a speed test I am capable of running at 6mb (I'm quite a long way from the phone exchange).
Any help in taking these b***ards down would be appreciated!
There is a problem with this area. It may have been advertised as an upto 8 meg package but when you sign up it gives you an estimated speed and that's what you signed up to. If you'd signed up in an area without LLU at the time then you get 2 meg, thats where that came from.
There's also other factors to throw into this as well.
Back from last November anyone not on an LLU line and with 2 meg was supposed to get an upgrade to ADSL Max within 6 months. From a few posts on this forum is seems some people have had the upgrade but it's hard to know what happened with that plan.
Since November you could also change package to be put onto ADSL Max.
If you were put on a LLU line then you should have got the fastest speed it could supply but we'd need to see the line stats to comment on that.

I'd be more than happy to help you take these b******* down! I signed up with Wandadoo in Dec 05 for the same package as you but without the livebox, and indeed that was exactly what I got (with 8mb speed) until Orange took over. I live in central london and i know my line is capable of 8mb as I've used it for over a year with that speed, but Orange have decided that my modem can't handle it and have reduced me to 2mb!! Since 15 th April I've hardly been able to connect at all apart from via the pay as you go dial up connection at snails pace. Numerous calls to their "technical" (what a laugh) department and just as hilarious "customer services" line have resulted in pretty well nothing. Orange need to be shut down (and i believe their mobile phone service is not much better, thank God I'm with Vodafone!). I've never known anything quite like it and will hopefully never come across anything like it again!
