Am trying to sort out my brother's livebox (INVENTEL version : v5.0 and it is doing my head in.
This is the worst piece of modem/routing hardware that i have come across to date (i have set up approximately 50 broadband accounts/networks over the last couple of years).
Using a intel 2200bg chip leads to the wifi falling off constantly. I even followed the advice in the sticky, not expecting it to work. It did for a couple of minutes.
I do not believe that this is a microsoft problem but rather an inventel problem. Don't have a copy of knoppix with me to confirm this though.
Given that encryption doesn't work I want to use MAC address filtering and turn off wep/wpa. i know that macs can be spoofed but I don't think that his neighbours will know how to.
Unfortunately though there is no option to do this. So far i have only managed to find two of the hidden menu pages.
Does anyone have a link to the rest.
Thanks in advance.

The livebox uses MAC address filtering by default, thats the pairing mode system where you have to press the 1 button so the antenna light flashes and it will add any new connections providing the correct key (if security is on) to it's filtering list.
Have you tried running just WEP security, having at least some security is usually enough to disuade most people from trying to have a go. Also did you try changing the wireless channel?
I have tried channels- 1,6,9(as advised by the thd),11 and 13.
Now i just want to turn of all security and use MAC filtering.
so by pressing the "come and get me mode" am i adding the client to the MAC filter. if so then does that mean that (other than MAC spoofing) no one else can associate (outside of the paring mode)?
i would rather enter the macs manually rather than risk someone else associating whilst pairing. Also i note that the unit is unable to resolve the client pc name- is this normal?
Cheers Daryl

There is no way of entering a MAC addres manuallly that I know of. You can however turn pairing time down to a minimum of 1 minute on the same page as the security type. Still it's never a recommended option.
New MAC's can only be added to associated devices during pairing mode otherwise a hacker would need to spoof an address to get in.
The client name stuff was mentioned on here sometime ago after it appeared in an update, back then it was somewhat intermittant too.
