I upgraded from my 512 package to broadband unlimited 2 Months ago and I'm still stuck on the same speed (608kbps). I've been bouncing emails to/from Orange (don't think I can handle any more calls as customer services are driving me insane) and it's got to the stage where they're now telling me my line can only support 0.5meg. Orange's line checker says I can get between 6-8meg.
Any advice on my next move? Has anybody attempted any legal moves/threats with regards to having their contract cancelled with all fees waived?
Its been 11 days since I installed my live box and for the past 11 days my download speed has varied from a shocking 100kbs to 500kbs according to various speed test websites and programs [e.g. speedtest.net]
I rang Orange a few days after installation and they said im on a "10 day line test period" and I should ring again if I do not see a speed increase after these 10 days.
Before I call them I was hoping one of you could take a quick look at what my livebox configuration page is reporting and whether or not theres a posibility of getting faster than 608 or have they simply just capped me at 608?
Hi Miles, I too am in the same boat. Feel free to search the site- theres much speculation and deduction on the whys and hows on this particular topic.
What is concluded is that its is soley due to Orange providing you with the half meg service, and this won't be rectified any time soon- there are threads dating to last year on this issue.
There is yet to be someone who is on 608/288 LLU to be 'upgraded' to a higher speed. To provided half a meg in this day and age is disgusting. If you are out of contract I suggest you find an ISP which will give you the service you expect- one of the top 5 ISPs, as opposed to staying with the worst voted ISP.
This means Orange have installed their own equipment in your exchange instead of using BT's.
Is it due to Orange experimenting with their own equipment rather than using the standard BT equipment that customers encounter so many problems [low capping etc]?
I am lucky, i'm still on BT's equipment at the moment.
From what i understand and what I have read alot of people on Orange's equipment seem to be stuck on around 0.5mb or 2.7mb speed. There is another thread on here where some are reporting there LLU speed improving, hopefully yours will soon.

Thanks for the information.
I've got my fingers crossed!
I assume you have filters fitted to your phone sockets, is the Livebox connected to a master or extension socket?
You assume right! I've got the "ADSL Filter" that came with the Livebox plugged into the only phone socket I have, and have the Livebox and home phone plugged into that
I've been with Orange / wanadoo / freeserve for about 5 years now and I never had a single problem with 512k using my "Stingray" Speedtouch modem; would almost always achieve speeds of at least 50kbs when downloading.
Thanks again for the advice!
P.s. At the moment I have no intention of using my Livebox's Wireless function. Should I bother to uncheck the "Enable Wireless LAN" in my Livebox configuration pages so people cannot even attempt to connect to it or is it safe anyway?
I am on 8mb ADSL Max and usually get around 6-6.5mb but at the moment I am getting 1mb maximum. This is often the case during peak times, sometimes I still get around 3mb.
It is worth trying connecting the Livebox to the master socket on its own. Also if the faceplate is removed is there a test socket? If so, try this. I found a speed boost when i removed all but wires 2 and 5 from the master and extension sockets.
I would try a speed test after 11pm or during the day. I often find my speed picks up again after 11pm.
The wireless is relatively secure but you can turn it off if you don't use it. No chance of someone connecting then and you can turn it back on later if you need.
As for the speed. It's the sync that's the problem, the livebox shows it can go much higher but it is definitely being limited to 1/2 meg. There is no 10 day training period of LLU connections although it may be the line hasn't been shown as completed yet on the system so they may not be able to do anything about it yet anyway. It could potentially change but it's unlikely.
Well, I don't know, all I know is it is being worked on. It's not like they really publicise the specifics of what is being done and tried. From what I hear it was being looked at before all the watchdog stuff so it's been going on a while.
