I just phoned the OFT and they said that Orange ARE IN BREACH OF CONTRACT and therefore I can cancel my contract without penalty as they have not been able to provide me with a service I am paying for.
He told me to send a letter by registered post demanding my contract be cancelled due to xxxxx. If they then reply that they will not cancel, I should forward this letter to CISAS who will then chase Orange. He said even though they don't normally deal with complains until after 3 months, they will in this case. He gave me this phone number: 020079813000.
I think I will call Orange this arvo and tell them what OFT said. Will keep you posted.
That is the direct telephone number for the Execative Office, based in Darlington.
Orange are a complete joke, i worked in there callcentre in North Tyneside (newcastle) until 4 weeks ago when i left the company as i was sick and tired how they treated staff and formost there customers.
Oh and when you ring that number, say customer service's have given you this, as it isnt published anywhere

how long has your connection been out of action?
i'm just wondering when the breach of contract kicks in - 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks???

I've had no service since the 18th. I rang OFT again just then to clarify when breach of contract started. They said immediately, although they should be given the chance to fix the problem. I asked how long I should give them, and they said "about 5 days". So it does sound a bit iffy. However, they said I MUST write a letter stating why they have breached the contract, and state something along they lines of "if the matter is not resolved within 5 working days then the contract is to be cancelled immediately, with no further funds due". He said they are bound by the Supply of Goods and Services act and a breach of contract can be enforced in court. He also said we can claim back funds paid whilst there has been no service and any other damages.
OFT expressed the fact that it is very important it is in writing, to show we have given Orange a chance to resolve the matter.
Phone 02087999200 (Consumer Direct), they were very helpful.

To whom it concerns at Orange Broadband,
Since I have had no resolution of my PPP server login problem, which started last Saturday, and no response to my previous emails on the matter, I would like to inform you that you are now in breach of the Supply of Goods and Services Act. Orange have had ample time to get the matter resolved. You haven't. Therefore, my contract with Orange is now null and void.
I therefore require a MAC code and my line cleared , so that I can switch providers. My direct debit has also been cancelled.
If I do not get my MAC code with 5 days, then I will report you to the Office of Fair Trading and CISAS.
Secondly, if I do not get my MAC code within 5 days, I will be making a claim for damages against Orange Broadband, for the time wasted on your pathetic "technical support" lines, the lack of communication and follow up, the stress caused by this.
