I've had broadband thru wanadoo for a good 4/5 years without any problems but on 16 April onwards I have been unable to connect to broadband via my ADSL modem. I keep getting a 0721 error (cant connect to the remote computer). I've not done anything different to my PC, my Modem seems OK (geen lights on etc) filter and line have both been changed etc.
I have now rang the helpdesk up at least 7 times. They say they have carried out a line test which has shown a fault on the line and it is with the engireers to resolve. I keep getting the ring back in 24 hours treatment and quite frankly am getting sick of it all now. Is this just the typical fob off by them. Who's engineers take responsiblity for fixing the line. orange or BT?
Any advice on what questions I should be asking the helpdesk? other than where to shove it
Ask them for a migration code and move to someone that will actually give a toss about your issue, what ever you do don't hold on for the fix that never comes or phone back in 24 hours every time you call or you'll still be waiting in another 2 or 3 weeks.
I'm just waiting for my code before i go elsewhere.

But who? I do a search on the internet and it always turns up the same stories!
quit Orange and go elsewhere. i'm trying Sky from sunday but if that is no better will bite the bullet, pay the extra and go with BT. they seem the best.

This will definatly fix my problem and will be done quickly?

Check out Thinkbroadband and DSL ZoneUK theres plenty of info there and will give you whats what with various ISP's there are plenty with 1 month contracts and free tech and customer support my advice is to avoid the big ones once your locked in their 12 or 18 month contract they dont give a s**t.
Regards

One of the major problems with BB right now is that too many companies are offering free broadband and working on stupidly high ratios of customers to connection ports. This causes all kinds of problems with connections and ip addresses being allocated correctly.
Sky, TalkTalk, Orange etc etc are all suffering the same issues
Might be worth checking out an independent offering with a static ip addy, i'm moving to a guy that is based in Nottingham (no issues with getting in contact) uses the main BT network and offers both a static ip and 30gb traffic for £20 a month.
I've been using him for server racks for the last 5 years and haven't had any downtime that wasn't expected so I reckon he's as good as anyone!
This is all very interesting! I thought my laptop was conking out so spent 200 pounds on an upgrade and service, but the problems recurred and seem very similar to those described here.
Perhaps we ought to keep a log of when the access problems seem to occur. For example, I have had no problems over the past two days (Sun Mon 29/30 April). It is true that I've also fitted a new filter on Sun 30th, but things were Ok before then.
How can we tell if it's a service issue, or something specifically wrong with an individual contact/machine?

good idea. i'm in the Reading area , and i might switch to these guys
Having written the above, I have found in the past two or Three days that I can get on in the early morning or afternoon, early evening, but mid to late evening I get the messages PPP TIMEOUT ERROR after a minute or (immediately) authentication denied.
Is this typical - an Orange fault?
