I've just been through quite an arduous experience trying to set-up broadband with Orange and thought I would share it with everyone in case they fall foul of the same problem.
Recently moved into rented accommodation, and set up the landline with BT, deciding to inherit the existing landline number at the property rather than generate a new one.
Signed a new 18mth mobile contract with Orange Mobile to avail of the broadband. Called Orange to register and then the problems started. The previous tennant also had an Orange broadband account, and had outstanding funds due on the account. I had to provide proof, via a letter from BT that I now own that number, so Orange could close the old account. Note: BT said the line was clear, it was Orange who were unable to process as their system said that the landline already had an open account on it.
It took 6 wks, 15 phone calls and 3 letters to Orange Head Office before it was sorted. By which time I had to sign a new 18mth mobile contract as I hadn't taken up the broadband offer within the 1st month (!!)
In short: Always get a new landline number, never inherit old ones as it'll come back to bite you!
