Ok, I dont really know where to begin with this one. I'm using a wireless connection from in my bedroom to connect to the Livebox downstairs (connected to another PC). When I do connect to the network, I usually manage speeds of around 24Mbps to 56Mbps with signal ranging from "Poor" to "Very Good".
Every so often, I will suddenly lose my connection. This isn't usually TOO much of a problem as I can just reconnect. However, increasingly frequently, the "Inventel Wireless Network Manager" finds the network and says "Connected on: Wanadoo-XXXX" and soon after disconnects, only to repeat this about 4-5 times. I then get a message saying that the wireless adapter and the Livebox have become unpaired and also asking if I would like to actually unpair them. If I say yes, I have to got press the button on the back ofthe livebox to go into pairing mode and repair them. If I say no, it continues trying to connect.
Closing the wirless network manager down and starting it back up usually fixes this problem (sometimes a restart is needed) which isn't a big problem for me. The "You are now in Maximum Security" sign then displaysat the bottom of the screen.
Now the other day, I lost the connection at about 6pm and didn't manage to get it working again until around 2pm the following day. I noticed that the problem I seemed to be having was that the router was unable to obtain an IP address for me. Realising this, I configured the TCP/IP settings as follows:
IP: 192.168.1.xx (don't think i should display what it is...)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
After a bit of fiddling around it worked... Today, the same problem, granted, it was only for about 2 hours. I've obviously just managed to get it back on somehow (starting to think that it's all random), but the speeds I'm getting seem to be really slow. Whilst the wireless network speed remains the same (around 24-56Mbps), the actual speed I get from the Internet Connection is greatly reduced.
My connection is actually stuggling to stay at the moment, but every so often it does manage to reconnect.
Also, I've connected to the network before by totally bypassing the default software (Inventel's Wireless Network Manager) and using Windows. Now when I click "Show available networks" in Windows the window is greyed out as if disabled...
Sometimes unplugging the Livebox and turning it back on works (if sometimes only temporarily). I do know that another wireless network has been running somewhere close by for a few weeks now, but the problem has been going on slightly longer than this.
I'm sorry about the long post, I just wanted to be specific about the problem and solutions I've tried s othat you don't waste your time posting them and I dont waste time going back over things I've done before.
You're ok to display that IP's it's a private address, I can set my router to use the same if I wanted, it's your external IP you don't really want to give out.
Sounds like either a signal issue or software problem on the pc. You could try reinstalling the inventel adapter (additional connection as it saves time and effort) and also changing the livebox channel, may get you a more stable connection. Log into the livebox config pages and change the channel in security, wireless connection. Best to do that through a wired connection then test and see if it helps the signal.

Ok. I think I fixed it by changing the Liveboxs association time from 60 minutes to "--". Don't seem to disconnect as much now (once or twice since I did it and I think this was because there was too much stuff open trying to use the Internet). I changed the channel as well just in case the other network was interfering afterall. I do still pick the other network up on more than one channel though so I'm using channel 5. Thanks for your help anyway.
If you're currently picking up the other network then technically you always should. It's the access point, Livebox/router, which sets the channel, the adapter looks on every channel for whatever's available.

There is an option in the properties panel for the adapter that specifies the chennel to search for networks on. Could the other network be broadcasting on more than one channel (or using a wider frequency range?).
For about half the time, the other network is not detected... I'm guessing that this might just mean it's turned off some of the time.
