hi
firstly may i apologise if this is problem is mentioned elsewhere, and secondly i am completely computer illiterate....
i have been trying to install my livebox now for a few days and its beginning to wind me up. i am trying to set up a wired connection but when i get to stage Three and Orange is trying to install the files to my computer the following message shows up:
'setup was unable to install all the cmponents. please close all applications and try running setup again'
help me please
It's probably easier to do this manually, I'll give you the steps to take so shouldn't be too hard.
Plug the ethernet cable in between the PC and livebox, doesn't usually matter where it plugs it just so long as it clicks in place.
Open internet explorer and put in 192.168.1.1 then click go,
Should get a page coming up with a single link, click it,
Username and password for access are both "admin" ok it in,
Go in My Services > Internet,
Enter your Orange username and password in the boxes and click submit,
Check the @ light if it goes solid then it should be all done and working.
If you get stuck at a point or if something goes wrong just post back here.
my internet explorer wont open the '192.168.1.1' page???anyideas?? it simply comes up with 'internet exploror cannot open the web page'
ive clicked on diagnose connection problems and it said i shoud refresh(which i did) or ive have not spelt it correctly and i should try using a link to the page...
im a little stuck.lol. any ideas???
Elhana is right but you have to put http://192.168.1.1 and refresh is the button with two arrows following each other to make a circle next to the page forward and page back.
its still saying that internet explorer cannot open the webpage
ive tried refresh and useing the link etc. its just not having any of it...
my firewalls are all turned off. ive got no programmes running. ive typed it in correctly, its all connected correctly.

Have you ever connected your pc to a network before? If it has never been set up for networking it won't connect to the livebox.
If this is the case open control panel, then "network and internewt connections", and then "set up or change your home or small office network" and let the wizard go through its process. Answer the questions the best you think but ask here if there are any you need help with. Then reboot the PC and try the livebox again.

Actually it makes no difference. When an address without protocol is entered internet explorer will automatically try http://etc.... first.
Try what gadgetgaz suggested but to be honest that in itself is unlikely to do anything in most cases.
Try checking this for me. Make sure the cable is plugged in ok and go through to:
Start > Control Panel (use classic view) > Network Connections,
Look for Local Area Connection, it should say connected.
Right click, go into status and select the support tab.
What does it say for address type and IP address?
If it doesn't say connected what does it say instead?
rite- i have set up the network thing but this mde no difference. i still get the same messages that the components cant be installed so i tried using the 192.168.1.1 thing and again got the same message that internet exploer could not open the page.
i cant find local area connection anywhere i have 'Dial-up' and 'LAN or high speed internet' options. under LAN it says 1394 connecion, disabled, 1394 Net Adapter. this means absolutly nothing to me, but hopefully it means something to you. i cant click on status whilst is diabled. if i enable the connection though it does say connected and when i go on status, the adress type and IP adress are both blank. i have tried clicking on details but this is also blank.
again i am stuck.
please help me

It's strange there is no icon for your LAN under the tab for 'LAN or high speed internet'. It might be that a) you don't have a LAN card in your computer or b) it is faulty or c) the drivers are not installed correctly.
Could you right click on your "my computer" icon on your desktop and then select "properties", then click on the hardware tab and then "device manager". You will see a list of all the hardware in your PC. Can you see an entry under "network adaptors"? Does it have either a red cross or a yellow exclamation mark?
As an aside, I recall getting the same error when trying to install my own livebox so I gave up on it. I can still access it though by using its IP address in a browser (the 192.168..... thingy).
i have also just spotted an ethernet controller with a yello exclamation mark next to it... will that be doing something, or stopping something doing something??

There's the problem. Could be a fault with it or it may just need the drivers to control it installing/reinstalling. If it's a fairly newish pc then where you got it from should be able to help with sorting that out, or you may be able to sort it from the cd's/disks that came with it originally.
Ignore the 1393 net adapter, that's firewire and not something needed for connecting up a livebox.
