first time on this site - been with Orange 5-6 days getting rubbish d/l speeds - seem to have settled @ 500kbps (u/l @ 300kbps).
I am guessing I am on ADSL max?
tried to get line stats after seeing a 192.168.1.1 comment on one of the topics but I cannot get info - keeps asking for username and password etc - haven't found a comment on other topics of how to get them....
please help - sorry if I have missed the explanation in FAQ's or similar
sorry got this worked out now - can anyone help with what I should be getting with these stats - my speed test @ www.speedtest.net is giving a constant ~ 500kbps even from my BT mastersocket, via my livebox

Looks like you're constrained by IP Profile. Do a test through http://speedtester.BT.com/ and you'll probably get mention of a 500kbps IP Profile. Providing those stats are stable it should go up within about 3 days.
Yep - IP profile checked today along with improvement in speed to ~950kbps
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1216 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 923 kbps
though my line stats don'tlook so hot this evening - looked better this afternoon (5pm)
I guess I keep waiting and see where I end up. I am in a semi-rural location so not expecting great shakes but just moved from a 2.2Mbps connection (talktalk - got out of contract with a move of house. though to be fair broadband service was very good - reliable not too much contention slowing, shame about customer services - familiar story...??)
As you can see the profile has moved up to 1 meg as that's a speed it's stable at however it won't go up higher if you continue to get sync rates of under 1600ish.
Sounds like you're still on the 10 day period so it's possible this may change as it looks like there is a small degree of breathing room in terms of stats.
having spent a day or so at ~ 1000 kbps i am now back down to 500....
as of about 30 minutes ago....i am near to the end of my 10 days am I likely to get stuck here @ 500k? do speeds vary much after the 10 days or so...?
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1120 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 452 kbps
earlier today the sync values were over 2.5 k.....
I have never seen anything other than 0's in the bottom section - does this mean I have had zero "errors" at whatever speed I ahve been assigned.
Yeah I presume it means you're getting no errors. Either that or it's not recording them.
Your sync of 1120kbps is just off the minimum required for a 1 meg profile. If it had been 1152kbps or better it would have stayed on 1 meg instead of dropping. I'd keep an eye on it until at least a day out of the 10 day period and see what it's like then.
It does however look somewhat unstable so there may be a problem behind it.
recent house re-wire including phone lines, no difference to master socket. have only 2 & 5 connections from master socket so should be OK?
I do remember that literally just prior to the drop from 1000kbps I ran the adsl tweaker (http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks) and Dr tcp (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm). could these have caused the exchange to se and error and trigger a drop in profile? My partner is perhaps right "don't play with what you don't understand....."
Not sure exactly when 10 days are up i think tomorrow (21st) will be ten days since I first connected the Livebox) - would hate to be stuck on 512K....
Coincidently a nice lady from Orange called yesterday too to see if I was a happy chappy.....
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1216 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 443 kbps
I guess the difference is peak traffic?? Any clues where I'll end up? Sounds like I am looking at a max of 1 meg but even that sounds dodgy. I am in a village at tleast 2 miles from exchange (don't knowexact distance - might be as much as 3 miles....)
Hopefully it'll stay around 1 meg at least but your connection does look very variable. This can be a problem on Max as for some people it will sacrifice stability for speed and on some occasions that speed is partially negated by the stability itself.
As I said just keep an eye on things for now but you may want to try and get a fault logged as to me it looks a touch too variable.
this morning Halleluja! IP profile to 3000kpbs....sorted (sync rate 3700ish) after a good 24-36hrs on my mastersocket
this afternoon 2500kbps....ohoh
later 2000 kbps
now 1000kbps sync rate 1400 ish...moved livebox onto alternative socket (primarily cause I just set up my main PC and i kept losing wireless (signal was pretty poor)) and sync rate back up to 3100 ish
when I look at linestats they seem to stay the same and change only on reset of live box or when a PC/laptop restarts (could this be a PC cache thing?) never seen any recorded errors but is the page is not "refreshing" appropriately...??
current stats on a 1000kbps profile
ADSL_TYPE=Interleave
ADSL_MODE=G.DMT
ADSL_NOISE_MARGIN=12.4
ADSL_ATTENUATION=52.0
ADSL_ATTAINABLE=3104
ADSL_DOWNSTREAM=2784
ADSL_UPSTREAM=448
ADSL_NOISE_MARGIN_UP=20.0
ADSL_ATTENUATION_UP=25.0
ADSL_ATTAINABLE_UP=1072
ADSL_RSCORR=0
ADSL_RSUNCORR=0
ADSL_RSCORR_UP=0
ADSL_RSUNCORR_UP=0
my attainable figure seems to vary a hell of a lot. today 3700ish down to 1400ish....I probably don't help matters by moving/resetting things...
it seems somewhat of a rollercoaster this DSLMax ( ithink the exchange has only had it less than 1 month could this be an issue or is noe of my neighbours "mr huge bandwidth user"....
you're right just checked exchange went DSLMax 31.0.3.06....Doh.
profile been stuck at 1000 kbps for ~ two days now.
sync varied from 3100ish to 3000ish currnetly 2500ish - have not moved livebox - is this variability normal?
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2272 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 636 kbps
A degree of variation is normal. The old 1/2, 1 and 2 meg speeds worked by simply undercutting the best speed the line could do so variations such as this couldn't effect you.
It's 3 days for profile increases, though if it does go up I'd suspect it'll only jump up to 1.5meg as 2272 is the absolute threshold for 2 meg so it'll probably play safe with 1.5.
