I recently started a thread HERE asking for help with my slow connection.
Basically, I was promised a 4.5Mbps connection and I was only getting about 2Mbps but that gradually dropped even further to a dire 0.1Mbps! My rate profile had reduced itself to 135kbps so there was no wonder my speed was poor.
I was using a master socket with an adsl filter built into the front plate so I assumed my wiring was OK. I had tried moving the master socket onto the exact point where BT's cable comes into the house from the telegraph pole and this made no difference so I put it back where it was again.
Thanks to this site I learned that I was on adsl max and also exactly how that system works. Once I understood these things I realised it was no good just trying the livebox in the master socket in the new position - I had to leave it plugged in until the exchange realised my line was now stable.
So, I put the master socket back upstairs onto the cable where it comes into the house (not strictly legal I suppose since that part belongs to BT but it was a BT engineer who moved it from there last year so I am only putting it back to how it was meant to be). I left it like that and after a couple of hours the profile had risen to 2Mbps and I was getting download speeds of just under 2Mbps. I was fairly happy but left it for another couple of days to allow the line rate to settle down.
My profile has now risen to 3.5 Mbps and my d/l rates are in the region of 3.2Mbps. I will just leave it for longer and hope it will increase even more. My livebox reports an attainable download rate of 4672 so there is scope for my profile to rise further
So, my advice is to be patient with any changes you make and don't dismiss the idea that it could well be your own wiring that is causing your problems.
Good luck and thanks for everyones' help and advice.
