Hey guys, I just got my MAC addressed and on the way but apparently I cant use it because I am going to pay a £120 termination fee. They told me that the only way around that is to have a downtime for at least a month..
So, has anyone come up with an alternative way to break the contract and not pay the Fee?
I read about one option to dowload like crazy and get a complain and eventually a termination..Well that will take long (and I am not connected either )
Has anyone tried to just stop paying and see what happens?

Irrespective of any outstanding contract you can use the MAC they supply you with. Any outstanding termination fee is is separate to your ability to use a MAC to go to another provider. If Orange are advising otherwise then they are wrong.

Well yea, but if I proceed and change ISP I will then either continue pay Orange or terminate contract paying again..
If Orange are not providing the contracted service you have EVERY right to cancel without charge.
As they refused me a MAC on TWO occasions i had no choice BUT to cancel and got a bill for the privelage which has not been paid. They have already offered to accept half the amount which i have also refused.
I am waiting for them to get in touch again to see what they propose cos i will NOT pay for something that did not an i believe STILL does not work.
I guess my next port of call again will be ISPA for the third time if Orange do not cancel this invoice. ISPA have already contacted them twice and requested a CISAS number which so far Orange have been reluctant to provide so until they do so i guess nothing will happen. Once i get the CISAS reference then it will go to arbitration. Hopefully the arbitrators will look at this on a countrywide basis and understand all the frustrations of anyone unlucky enough to have Orange as their ISP. Orange in my view have no idea howe to fix any of these problems and if they indeed do then why is it taking them so long?
After all...wasnt it the "Man from Orange" on BBC Watchdog who GUARANTEED a 5 day fix?
Good Luck to everyone else with this problem....
Orange deserve NO business with their attitude towards their customers....
Dont forget Orange......its CUSTOMERS who pay your wages!!
Just to let you know, I have stopped paying, I will let you know what happens.
Thanks, please let us know what they do. I am about to do that too, since they plainly said to me that the only way they r going to break the contract is if I have a 30 day disconnection (in 1 time! not total)
How do they know if you have no connection for 30 days? I have had the "PPP Server Down" fault for 3 weeks now and they have done nothing to resolve it.

I had the same question, turns out that they only record your downtime if You call them and make them write a note on your account. They also told me that If I don't call them they wont do anything to resolve the problem as they will be not aware of it. This comes straight from their mouths, nothing changed or dramatized

That all stems from how people can and do use their connections. Going on holiday may mean you don't use the connection for a couple of weeks but there's no fault. I've also heard of some not using connections for weeks on end, even months in some cases, maybe the pc is broken and they've not had the time and/or money to replace it, working away from home, main user has moved/been thrown out, etc.
While they could try and be proactive on that sort of thing, right now the resources needed can be better used elsewhere.

Lol? I am talking about PPP Server down problems, not turning off my pc.
You seem to be defending Orange right?

I have had the same problem. 3 weeks i have been down. They said that they would only let me cancel for free if i had been disconnected for more than a month. "One week to go, I can't wait"!!!!

Same thing really, if you don't connect either due to a problem or because of one of the examples I mentioned then nothing happens, the system is unable to tell the difference between them. It's standard policy to compensate for the downtime reported, the earlier it's reported and noted the earlier you can claim the downtime from also the quicker it should be fixed.
