Is it legal for the evil empire to refuse a MAC code. I'm still in contract, about 4 months but only owe about £20 due to being on the £5 max/phone package. I have asked 4 times for a MAC code but the clones won't give me one unless i pay the balance in advance. I thought they had to give me the MAC and bill me seperatly. I won't pay on princible of not having had a continuous service since the 8meg upgrade. 2 0r 3 days a week downtime has been pretty consistent for the last 6 months. The last 7 days of no connection (fault at the exchange again)is realy the last straw.
The connection has just come back on and will migrate the moment it goes off again.
Did they say you cannot have it unless you pay the balance or, what they should have said, if you use it you will be charged the remaining contract term.
If it's the latter often it'll draw you onto the subject of fees etc and away from actually getting the request put through. As long as you're firm that you want the code they should request it for you.
Another option would be to change to the free package with your mobile instead of £5 one and then cancel, 4 x £0 is.... no charge!
