I recently upgraded to 8 meg broadband, but since then both laptops on my network have stopped connecting to the internet, icon in system tray keeps saying a network cable is unplugged, had this problem with the main pc for a while but it seemed to right itself, never had this problem until the upgrade, am using a speedtouch 530 router so wondered if this can no longer cope, have had no help from Orange, have e-mailed Three times. cant get through by phone, e-mails i get back have not been able to solve the problem, i have put in ip addresses etc manually but still no luck, i do not know a lot about computers and wondered if anyone had any ideas??
Network cable unplugged for both sounds like there's a problem with the router. I wouldn't expect the speed to cause that but there is an easy way to tell if it is. Unplug the router from the phone line and restart it, if the PC's still get the same problem then I'd say something'd definitely wrong with it.
You could try swapping the cables around and which ports they connect into to see if that makes any difference.
thanks for that will give it a go, i thought it may have been the network card at first with the one laptop but a friend told me to ping that and i got a reply of ttl128, so i think the card is ok, when the 2nd laptop stopped working i thought it was unlikely for 2 cards to go at the same time. anyway thanks again
