about a month ago now, i had a PPP server down issue. started on a monday morning, so i rang them that day. they said that a scheduled migration was taking place, and that my internet should be back on in a few days. this was fair enough, they let me know what was happening. and it came back on!!! and when they said!!! and it was 2meg, not 1meg!!!! so i tohught lovely, and continued use of my broadband, wondering what all of the people on this forum was complaining about.
cut to the easter holidays. tuesday morning, PPP server down. hmmm. i just tohught it would be back up the next day, as it was before, so i left it. nothing. leave it another day, nothing. thursday i phone them, and get some s**t about a scheduled migration on the 8th of march, when its the 5th of april. they cannot run a line test, blah blah. try turning it off and on again, do a factory reset, blah blah. phone back in 24 hrs. so when i do this, and after going through the random on off tests again, the indian call center guy tells me to give them my most available number (my mobile) and they will get back to me within 24-28 hrs. its not been about 30 hours, just managed to get onto the internet at my dads house.
i need some advise on what to do. can i fix it?
i have so far tried...
1) on/off agian
2)different cables
3)different filters
4) i went to my friends and nabbed his old Orange speedtouch modem, but that wont connect either
im going to phone them back once its been 48 hrs, cos i know they have no intention of phoning me back, if they give me a date of fixing, then ok, but if not, then i want to get a migration code and go with AOL.
would AOL set me up broadband with a potential fault lingering on my line?
is there anything i can do to hurry Orange up fixing it??
appreciate any help, and give thanks in advance.
cheers guys. (sorry for the long boring essay, and sorry for any potential spelling or grammar mistakes (stupid laptop keyboard))
The only way to get your braodband is to move to a company that can provide it - Orange cannot.
You have fallen victim to the lies of this excuse for an ISP like the thousands upon thousands of other customers, including myself.
I left last year and went to Idnet - never had a disconnection since. There aren't faults on your line only with Orange.
thanks for the re-assurance. ringing Orange and another ISP on tuesday to get it sorted out.
any recommendations for a good ISP, need 2meg (all my line can support) with unlimited bandwidth, and a free router would be nice.
wanna pay about 10-20 quid per month. best ive seen so far is AOL
UL 2meg with free wireless router for 14.99 p/month.
any disagreements about AOL, or will there be no comparison between that and Orange.
rang Orange to cancel, and a really helpful customer service lady told me if i spoke to the technical support for 5 minutes, and they still couldnt fix it, they would cancel my contract for free. so thats done.
they told me i would be fully cancelled within 10 days, when i will be able to move to a new ISP, without the need of a MAC. is this bull***t, or will i genuinely be able to switch in 10 days????
Once you have cancelled with Orange you are free to go elsewhere, though you may have to pay a connection charge and it's likely to take up to a further 10 days for your new connection to become active.
at this moment in time, i dont really care how long it will take, i just need to get away from Orange.
would rahter wait 20-30 days to get a connection to a real ISP, than be spoonfed bull***t by Orange for the rest of my contract.
hang on, if Orange say it takes 10 days to cancel, and AOL take 10 days to activate, couldnt i just order AOL now, so they over lap, and i should get internet set up\quicker.
They can't be overlapped. The line has to be fully cleared and de-tagged before another ISP can place a new order.
The migration process is available to avoid this sort of situation and allow the moving to a new ISP, usually without an activation fee (depends on a few factors though), and with as little downtime as possible during the changeover.
the guy told me i wouldnt need a MAC, because it was just being cancelled, and told me he wouldnt be able to give me one, because he already cancelled it.
atm, im just glad to be away from Orange, and will happily wait, to join a REAL ISP.
