I've been using the live box service for a few months with no problems. Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago a problem developed with the usb lead that plugs the inventel adapter into my laptop. If im on the internet, with my laptop on my lap, and i move slightly, the computer makes a noise as if a usb device is being unplugged and the internet connection flicks off. I then have to fiddle with the lead at the usb point to get a connection again, but if move again the connection flicks off.
Now i know this problem is definitely with the adapter lead, and not my laptop, as every other usb device (ipod, digtal camera, memory stick etc) works perfect in every usb port. But the inventel lead flicks out on every port.
My options are: 1. Phone wanadoo, explain my problem and receive a new lead. OR
2. Just buy another adapter. Preferably one without a lead, one that just plugs straight into the laptop.
Now i realise from reading this forum that wanadoo customer care isnt that hot, so i will probably go with option 2. Can anybody recommend any particular adapter that will work with the livebox? How much will i be looking at paying?
If you want another adapter any "g" adapter should work, although if you want tech support you'd want to get...
http://www.speedtouchonline.co...CurrPos=5.
Same adapter Wanadoo now sell but cheaper and apparently they can be had for cheaper still if you look around.
Even though im not looking forward to it, im going to speak to wanadoo first and try and get a replacement lead for free, maybe even try and blag that speedtouch usb adapter
All replacements, if needed should be the speedtouch adapter. It's just generally better. It even twists and bends so it doesn't have to stick straight out ready to be broken off.
I had the same problem where the Inventel USB WI FI adapter developed a USB error.
At first the adapter was playing up and then one day a plugged it and got got USB device not recognized error message regardless of what pc it was plugged into.
After phoning Wanadoo it got a replacement was sent in the post in less than five days.
Wanadoo support are really good when it comes to replacing faulty hardware or sending out the recovery CD.
Hopefully the LLU problems will be less often but a least its not as bad as Bulldog Broadband where more customers where effected and resulted in no phone or broadband.
So...... i rang wanadoo and got a replacement yesterday, a couple of days late but nevermind. I plugged it in but it didnt seem to recognise the adapter. After a couple of minutes of messing around in network connections i finally connected to the internet. But then i noticed that the adapter still wasnt being recognised. So i unplugged the adapter from my laptop.........and to my surprise the internet still worked!!!!
Which begs the question.........what is the point in the adapter?
Im guessing its for increasing the range but, as you can guess, im not that clued up about wireless. Anyone know?

You did make me laugh!
With all due respect, it is impossible for the internet to work wirelessly without an adapter of some sort!!!
As Elhana pointed out, you must have internal wireless on your laptop! And it was triggered by the external adapter somehow...
Note that a lot of queries with respect to internal wireless and it not working are due to the fact that the wireless connection button on the laptop has not been pressed (usually this only needs doing on a first install and then it will connect automatically thereafter) - check your laptop's documentation under "Wireless connections" or similar.
I was just questioning why an adapter was sent to me when i already had one inside my laptop. I now know that not all pc/laptops have built in adapters so i guess wanadoo have to send one out each time just in case.
Now onto my next problem: My internet connection is perfect if im sitting within 5 metres of the livebox. However if i go into my garden, about 10 metres away, it becomes very unpreductable. My laptop connects to the livebox but cant get an internet connection, 'unable to renew ip address' i think was the error message.
It will connect sometimes after about 20 mins of trying, but can then drop off again.
Well new liveboxs don't come with adapters anymore just to confuse some people.
Anyway sounds like a signal issue. It's best to do the next part over a wired connection incase of problems.
Get into the livebox config pages,
Security,
Wireless Connection,
Change the channel number and submit.
See if you get a better wireless connection, may take a few changes to get a better frequency, some may even be worse but it all depends on local conditions.
