Has anyone cancelled their free broadband or got a MAC?
I am 8 months in to the 18 month £30 phone and free broadband but want out of Orange broadband. I am happy to continue the phone until the end but I can't handle the rubbish connection speeds and continuious evening dropouts.
My view is that they can't charge me the amount they are losing as it will be Nill.

Hi,
I think it will depend on when you took out the free broadband.
A change in the terms and conditions somewhere around October/November ish of last year changed it so that if you cancelled the free broadband before the end of the 12 months then you would have to pay the £14.99 multiplied by number of months remaining.
If you took it out before this time I think there was no charge for leaving.
I turned down the offer of moving to up to 8mb from my fixed 2mb line on purpose earlier this year as I knew it would enter me into the new terms and conditions where I would have to pay to get out.
As far as I know I joined in July 2006, on 1 meg, and haven't upgraded since. Although I did get a wierd email in December saying "Great news, we've completed testing your line and can confirm that the fastest speed we can give you is up to 8.0 Meg broadband" nothing about my actual account becoming 8 meg. I didn't request this.
So by rights I should be able to cancel without charge.

Hi,
Glad it's going well so far, gives me some piece of mind for when I come to leaving Orange broadband later this year. My reasons are for moving house rather than poor service but still sounds like the way out isn't blocked too badly in these circumstances!

No MAC as of yet... why it takes so long I don't know when I got one from F2S to come to Orange they gave to me over the phone and an email arrived 10min later.
Anyway thanks for the recommendations I will have a look.
I did notice that IDnet arn't a ISPA member. Not sure if that makes much of a difference?

100% agree and F2S were exactly that. Great, small, with CS second to none not that you ever needed it. Then one year later they started to go down hill fast. Hope my next isp dosen't follow suit.
IDNet don't need to be ISAP members. They deliver what you pay for and fix problems when they don't deliver.
Self-regulation based on a sense of commercial pride is far superior to enforced regulation based on fear.
Steve
ISPA is not enforced regulation. Its a voluntary industry body with no feet to give ISP's like Orange a good kick up the jacksee!!!
If you remind them of their obligations to the industry, in fairness they then send an email to Orange containing your complaint which true to form is promptly ignored.
All they can do to members who repeatedly do not comply with thier code of practice is to remove their membership. Hardly likely with Orange as they sponsor one of their annual awards. Would,nt be for outstanding customer service would it!!!!!!
Well they ignored my request to send the MAC to my non Orange email and sent it to the Orange one at 15:10 today. Luckly I had read the comments on here and went and had a look.
Thanks for your recommendations guys, I have read loads today and went with IDnet's Home Max at £24.99 a month.
Once its all through I will be dropping my mobile monthly tariff from £30 to as low as possible to cover some of the cost.
Thanks again and good luck to anyone else who wants out of Orange.
