Only some web pages work on broadband, fine on dialup! Some domains are fine e.g. google.co.uk but then office.microsoft.com is ok but microsoft.com isn't. Most domains just don't work. In status bar I get "opening page http://orange.co.uk" (or whatever domain) or something like "awaiting response from http://..." but I can't get it to do that one just now. Ocasionally bits of the troubled pages work and when I view source there's plenty of code there, just not displaying/interpreting it.
All fine on dialup on the same pc via Tiscali pay as you go instead of Orange broadband. Also fine from another PC through same router - just plugged in via ethernet cable, not even using wifi. Same problem using the USB WAN modem that freeserve provided. All started on 5th April I think. Since then I've done everything. I've flushed DNS cache, released and renewed address on the PC, left router off overnight to get a new WAN IP and still the same, I've formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows, installed up to date AV and AS and done full scans, still no good.
Can anyone suggest any decent sites where I can check if my PC is blacklisted or any other tests or hypotheses to explain a PC which has problems with most websites but only on broadband? How come one PC is ok and the other isn't - don't they both appear on the internet to have the same IP if I'm using the same broadband router and connection... or isn't that how it works - is there a website which can tell me what it sees from my connection?
Alternatively could this just be a winsock error that happens to have re-ocurred after reisntalling windows!?! If so does anyone know of a non-winsock browser I could try? I've already tried IE, Opera and Firefox.
Couldn't get DrTCP to my W2K machine so just bunged an MTU entry in the registry. Phenomenal. Interestingly it was set to 1300 on my NT machine which was ok. Don't know where that came from.
