I have had 1 outage so far which has lasted 5hrs. Other than that my internet has not disconected once so it has been a very stable connection.
The trouble is that page loading can be quite slow & my download speeds during 6pm to 11pm are absolutely crap. I'm now downloading a file of 150 mb at 35 KB/Sec. I think it is going to take around 1 hr 30 mins.
I have done quite a few speedtests & it seems at night my connection is going from 0.6 to 0.2. I did test it at 9am during the week & i got a massive 6.5. This is no use though as i mainly use the net at nights & weekends.
I am on the Pendleton exchange in Manchester & from what i can gather i'm on LLU.
I can't cancel my Orange contract as it would mean me having to pay the remaining 9 months of contract off. Will Orange put me onto ADSL MAX IPSTREAM if i demand to be taken off LLU.
Sorry Jahad, unless you know the Queen or you play golf with the Orange Owner you won't be moved away from LLU.
No ones ever left LLU (like a black hole, once it gets you, it ain't letting go).
LLU is their cash cow, why pay extra to the likes of evil BT when they can keep their greedy mitts on it themselves. TUT TUT, you will learn to live with LLU, REJOICE IT, EMBRACE IT, LUUURVE IT
With the traffic shaping going on, and not getting what your paying for theres very little that Orange can offer what another ISP offers but only more. Start browsing other ISP's and think about getting out.
Another night on the net & i'm still getting 30KBps. I think Orange may be doing something to my line during peak times. I say this as my download rate starts at 150KBps & then drops suddenly to 30KBps. It has done this when downloading from a number of sites.
I have noticed another post on the forum. The poster says he got put on to ADSL MAX from LLU but the condition was he had to take out another 12 month contact.
I am going to phone Orange tomorrow & try to get this deal. If i do get put onto ADSL MAX will this stop all the peak time slowdowns & associated traffic shaping & capping.

If i was you i wouldn't under no circumstances sign for another 12 month contract get a MAC and migrate away ASAP your problems will miraculously disappear.

If you do get this deal of moving from LLU to ADSLMAX I would be very surprised. It is a given that people are put onto ADSLMAX as a stop gap until their exchange has LLU enabled. So its only a matter of time till everyone under Orange is LLU'ed (just like BE but without the performance).
I'm skeptical about this person being out onto ADSLMAX as a matter of preference. If he was moved to ADSLMAX, then its more likely he was having dire problems with LLU and they had no choice but to move him (very rare case). Anyhow, it was probably a fix to his solution, thinly disguised as an offer.
With respect to the peak time slowdowns and traffic shaping, watch this space as I fear this particular aspect of broadband is going to become official. At the moment, its not, but theres more and more reports of this taking place- seems exchange specific. Traffic shaping was a big no no, few years back, now its being introduced by stealth (reports of BT doing this too, not mention our cousins in America having it done to them too).
This is just another aspect of Orange which seems hellbent on restricting your service instead of 'embracing' the nature of the internet...
I tried replying to this post last night but my connection dropped and I couldn't get it back . All I was going to say is whatever you do, take the advice of an earlier post and do not sign up for another 12 months whatever is offered. I really doubt it'll be worth it. Get out as soon as you can.
It costs Orange money to put you back on IPStream so you have NO chance cos they are too greedy to HELP their customers.
Get out of their so called contract and go to an ISP who can offer you a service, they dont even know what the word service means. ( oh apart from the french chappy of course who has promised to fix your problem in 5 days ) YER RIGHT !!!
