Just a quick reminder that BBC Watchdog broadcast the results of their Broadband survey on Wed 21st March @ 8pm. I'd be very surprised if Orange isn't named and shamed as being the worst ISP. They might even get someone from Orange on the show to explain the problem
On a side note to this evenings episode- Who else loved that oh so uncomfortable pause when Nick gave it to the BT rep. I only wish that's gonna be an Orange rep...
I like the way BT tried to justify the £5 charge... Surely it makes more sense to charge those that pay late a higher charge and leave those who pay their bill on time each and every month alone! Why do I think they are doing this? Because they find it almost impossible to claim back un-paid bills from those on income support. Courts tend to order payments of £1-£2 a week and do nothing if payments are not kept up. The answer, charge all those customers who do pay on time just not by Direct Debit. Afterall, it's generally those who run their bank account close to empty that avoid direct debits as they can't be sure the funds will Be Broadband!
A little known fact about Direct Debits is that larger companies have full control over the system, they don't even send the completed forms off to the bank. The only time the bank get to see them is if there's a problem. I know because I cancelled a direct debit many years ago, only for the company involved to re-start it and take an incorrect payment of £180. I got the money back, but not as easily as the direct debit guarantee makes out!
I am going to send in the Direct Debit forms stating that I am only happy to pay by this method if they are willing to compensate me £50 each and every time they take an incorrect payment. I will of course send this by recorded delivery and expect a response from them. I'm sure they will say it won't happen, however I talk from experience hence I pay each quarter by transfering the funds online.
Anyhow, this forums meant for Orange problems and I've just been ranting on about BT, lol
I hope this opportunity isn't wasted, exposing ISP's for their underhanded tactics is a long time coming. Something tells me who ever the ISP rep they get to answer questions will have a tongue as slick as oil...SHAME THEM!
Orange came 7th out of BEST providers (WTF!) However, they also came 1st for the WORST, lol. Will have to see what they say on the show!
The tables to focus on are the proportional tables i.e. tables 3 and 4. Both tables show exactly the same results but in different ways:
Dissatisfaction Ranking - Oranges position: 3rd (out of 29)
Satisfaction Ranking - Oranges position: 27th (out of 29)
Either way these results only serve to confirm how terrible Orange is and just highlights the fact that the majority of people on this survey are NOT satisfied.
These figures correlate well with the ratings users give to ISPs over at at DSL ZONE, bear in mind those ratings are also continuous and have been going on for alot longer than Watchdogs:
As far as I'm concerned Orange can no longer spit "Majority of users are happy", and anyone that says otherwise- I suggest you get off that PR wagon because thats going off a really huge cliff...

Exactly what I was just about to post! A total waste of everyones time... The least they could have done was talk to an Orange & TalkTalk representative... Seems no one cares!
It got better at the end... They got "well" slated! Quite rightly too... They only have themselves to blame... I'm sure the fact they owned up on TV will help some of you to escape!
Still, the guy from Orange really didn't seem to know just how bad things really are... However, Orange can now resolve problems within 5 days! Does that mean if they don't (as we know they can't) that you can leave? I know some of the people on here have been suffering for months! I was lucky, I escaped and I'm now VERY happy with Be. It's a shame Watchdog didnt include them in the survey though!
