I have now moved from Orange to Zen and I have to say the process was rather painless.
I received a 2.2MB connection with Orange whilst my neighbour was receiving 6.2MB with Sky which seemed extremely strange. Anyways, I received a letter from Orange which said they would cancel my account because I breached their TOS in using more than 40GB bandwidth per month. I was told that my internet would cease on 2nd March even though it has continued to run upto today. I requested a MAC code and received it within 24 hours via email.
I sent the MAC to Zen and four days later I am with Zen. I downloaded a file this morning (quickly before work) and my speed shows 5.7MB which is excellent. I just cannot understand how one provided gives 2.2MB whilst the other can give 5.7MB using the same modem/telephone exchange.
If with Orange, leave them asap and signup with another provider. As I see it, Orange are giving low speeds when they are capable of offering a lot more if they put their hand in their pocket.
Aaaaand another one leaves. I hope Zen comes up with the goods. People leaving Orange is starting to pick up pace, we should start having a sweepstakes...They're going to have to come up with better novel ideas out of their arses to retain people methinks- Throw in a free stress ball? Possibly a book of Sudoku just for those times when your broadband isn't connecting.
Congrats to you - it's good to be free of their sub-standard (to put it politely) service, ain't it? I've left as well and I'm now on UKFSN (part of Entanet). One week after the change I'm getting 6MB down and 400K up, using exactly the same line, exchange and equipment that was giving me speeds as low as 300K down with Orange. I'm still in the 10 day training period - it seems to be getting faster every day. And the kicker is, I'm paying about 30% less for this than I was for my Orange connection.
Over the next week I will also be moving a couple of other people from Orange to this provider (people that I originally helped set up on Wanadoo because I was happy with the service - how things change, eh). They're the people that Orange loves - they've noticed the connection has been a 'bit slow' and sometimes they have to reboot their routers to get it working, but they don't understand the details so just put up with it. It will be a hassle as I'll have to get the MAC codes and set everything up for them, but I can't in good faith leave them with Orange.
My advice to everyone not locked in to a long contract is - if you can get out, do it now!
Good on you boosh. Orange doesn't realise the impact of word of mouth.
In the past, I too have recommended Orange for an ISP but no longer. Those that I know who are on Orange have either left or are seriously thinking about leaving- those which are hesitant are weighing up the free international calls factor.
You'll find anyone who is truly happy with their ISP will gladly sing their praises and stick it out there like king kongs erection.
I reckon for any p!ssed off Orange customer/ex-customer, that individual will influence at least 2/3 other potential customers/existing customers to leave.

Damn right. I convinced my girlfriend to cancel her Orange mobile contract as she was paying far too much and am myself in the process of migrating to newnet. Methinks Orange may be in for a rather rude awakening
