Hi, I have measured my speed on my new 8meg Orange broadband (not sure if on LLU, could someone tell me what this is?)
I am getting 90-150 kilobytes per second in the evening when I get my 10 second disconnections (may be the speed is too slow)
This to me seems like .10 of a meg rather than up to 8 meg!!!!!!!
The disconnection is most obvious on when using PS2 - due to need for a constant connection. If you are surfing intermittantly it is not obvious if it disconnects, and it may only disconnect when utilising the bandwidth?
Disconnections are mainly in the eveining. I think it may be that it's running so slowly? I am trying to get Orange to sort it, but twice now they tell me noithing is wrong, I am going to quote these download bandwiths to them as I think they are very slow, am I correct?

LLU means Orange put their own equipment at the exchange instead of using BT's. Does you upload speed go over 288kbps? If it does then you're not on LLU.

90-150KB is about 0.75-1.25megabits.

Are you using a livebox and does the @ light flash at all when you get disconnects like this?

Although speed is important with games there can be other things like latency spikes or packetloss which can also make games unplayable. These can be from within the Orange's network or external to it, tracert's can be useful to nail down roughly where the problem is coming from.
Thanks for your help, I am not using the livebox, due to not being able to connect to it!
I have an Linksys and Belkin router/modem which are both easy to set up and I am certain there is no fault with these. (that's why I have a belkin now, so I could eliminate the linksys from the fault, and the same fault happens with the Belkin).
The telephone light (2 lights on the belkin telephone and world symbol) goes out for about 10 seconds (like it would if you pulled out the telephone cable).
Ok then that does sound like a full disconnection, in that case unless there's something messed up with the wiring or filters it'll likely need an intermittant line test put through to try and find a root cause.
Because upload speeds are much lower they're usually much less effected in these sorts of cases so are pretty steady.
