Sorry if this is not the correct place to post this or if it has been asked before.
I am just about to sign up for Livebox from Pipex and have to confess that this site is rather putting me off as there are too many issues, or is it that forums always attract the problems?
If anyone could spare a minute, could you please answer these questions as Orange is VERY hard to contact and get what you feel to be a proper answer.
1. Is it correct that you only get one POP3 email address. Surely this can't be right.
2. I have a wired network that terminates in two ethernet plugs (network split between two switches to save on amount of cable back to router). Can I plug both these cables into the Livebox? And will the Livebox manage the IP's for 6 devices, printer, pc's and streamer. Tech Support thought so, but were not sure. The website states 5 devices wirelessley from memory.
3. Is the VOIP srevice any good?
4. Finally, should I proceed?
Many thanks to anyone who answers, I am really interested, but the Orange website is so lacking in detail.
1. Dont know
2. Dont know
3. NO
4. NO, Choose a better ISP e.g Sky or BE. They state 16Mb and 24Mb and their stated connection speeds are somewhere close. With Orange you maybe be put onto LLU (check exchange details). They state 8Mb but you will never get above 3Mb.

You can have as many as you like as long as they are associated with your sub-domain (ie anyname@subdomain.wanadoo.co.uk) You choses the subdomain name when signing up.

I Think Livebox has two ethernets and can handle uptp 6 PC's. If that wrong then I'm sure someone will correct it.

In my opinion yes. I use it to phone Bulgaria. Never had any problems and quality is as good as BT line. However, others say quailty is not good.

This is a difficult one. You will have to weigh up what you are looking for against any potential problems you may encounter. I would try and find out whether you would be put on LLU. If the answer is yes then I would walk away. If you go with Orange and everything goes to plan then fine. If things go pear shape then you could be in for a torrid time. Oranges support is woefully lacking.
Thanks for all your replies. Given me something to think about as I am currently on a 1mb service from Pipex which is pretty rock solid, but at £23.44 per month an absolute rip off.

It's upto 6 devices wirelessly, limits it this much to prevent poorer connections if you try to go for more I believe.
Wired it should be able to handle as many as it can assign IP addresses, about 190, but I wouldn't dream of pushing a livebox that far!
Thanks for the heads up on LLU. My exchange is not enabled. Surely it could be in the future and then the problems would start....or is this not the case.
Regards
LLU is going through a major upgrade programme and change of platform....any new implementations should be fine. (Older LLU equipment is due for upgrade and some are over subscribed - that is one of the major issues). There can be problems with the migration process to LLU, but once you are on it and running it is usually pretty good on the newer quipment.
