I have been an Orange customer for over 4 years way back when the livebox was the latest all singing all dancing box of tricks, in THEORY!

I returned home toaday to find that my wired ethernet connection is suddenly not working. Even though no settings or software changes have been implemented.

My wireless connection is working on my laptop even so very slow and dropping regularly.

I live in the Newcastle area and I realise that my exchange, Boldon, is LLU. Could this cause the fault?

I have uninstalled the ethernet card drivers and reinstalled, checked the cable connection and tried the windows "Repair" option, but continually get the "...cannot asign the IP address" message.

Your help would be much appreciated...

reset the live box so it can reasign ip address to laptop and pc.

that use to be a common fault with those things after they done a so called live update.
i dumped my live box in the bin and bought a BT voyager 2150 far better speed on wireless and much less trouble.

Boldon is a named and shamed LLU exchange with known problems.

Yeah cheers Keith I think that was probably me that did the Boldon shaming!

Does anyone know if there has been an update and therefore the need to reset.

How do you do the reset thing again. Is it switch off switch one whilst holding in button 1 and will this mean having to reset all my wireless connections?

Yes there has been an update over last week or so.

Firmware identification INVENTEL version : v5.08.3-uk

This process will erase all settings entered into the Livebox and restore factory settings.

Follow these steps :

Unplug all cables, including the power and DSL cables from your Livebox;

Hold down button number 1 on the Livebox and keep it held down;

Insert the power cable - YOU MUST KEEP HOLD OF BUTTON NUMBER 1.

The following lights , and should illuminate simultaneously;

Now all the lights will illuminate and you will hear a 'click' from inside the Livebox;

The >> light illuminates, followed by the @ and telephone lights, then the aerial light will flash 7 times in quick succession;

Only after the 7th flash should you release button 1;

All other lights will extinguish and the warning triangle light will flash quickly for a short time;

Plug the DSL phone cable back into the Livebox;

The lights will settle so that the warning triangle light is off and only the @ and aerial lights are flashing slowly.

At the end of this procedure, you will have to go through the installation process, as if it was the First Time you were setting up your Livebox.

How come the wireless laptop works fine, I don't understand this.

EDIT: Version is showing as v5.08.3-uk via Config pages as viewed from my laptop Rolling Eyes

Nothing is ever simple with computers. Turn off wireless on laptop. Try connecting Laptop with ethernet cable.

Reset didn't work. I am left with a flashing @ light and static aerial light. Do I need to use wanadoo setup disc and reinstall right from scratch.

I'm sure I have reset the box in the past and never had to use disc as all drivers are still on PC.

Will be trying laptop via ethernet cable to ensure not a problem with cable or ethernet card in desktop.

I too am now looking to change provider since I've discovered this site and the problems I have are not just my problems!

"Limited or no connectivity" NO CONNECTIVITY being the operative words.

Does it sound more like a network cable / card problem rather than Livebox / Orange?

Not at home so can't mess around till later.

LIVEBOX STATS:

There is a page within the router GUI that displays the line stats. Click the link below.

http://192.168.1.1

Click on the "Access to the configuration pages" link, then choose My Services from the menu on the left, then Internet.

If you are prompted to login, the username is admin and the password is admin.

Sorry you lost me the link seems to be the same as the address I have tried to get access to the configuration inventel page.

What is the GUI?

The error comes up when I try this address and when I try to repair the connection, I get the IP address cannot be assigned...or something like that.

EDIT Ok got home and laptop working after reset, yes I did have to re-input username and password in configuration pages. But I still can't access inernet via desktopPC / ethernet cable method. I'm about to plug cable into laptop and disconnect wireless adapter to see if it is a desktop or cable problem only. Keep you posted, if I can!!!! Wink

OK. I'm sending this from the laptop via ethernet cable so definately looks like a desktop problem and not necessarily an Orange problem! Embarassed

I'm now going to dismantle desktop. Strange as WinXP telling me there isn't a problem with the Network card... Confused

Card was only a cheepy Realtek RTL8139 hope it's just a replacement answer!
