Just done a speed test on www.speedtest.net with an interesting result.

I have been with Freeserve / Wanadoo / Orange since 2002, but tonights result stated that my ISP was Cable & Wireless !!!!!

Over the last few months I have checked speeds about once a week and this is the 1st time I have noticed this.

Are Orange sub-contracting through other ISP's or have speedtest.net got it wrong ?

Cable and Wireless aren't a real ISP anymore, they do backend network stuff, they took over Energis which Orange have used for a long time.

So would this confirm that I am on LLU ?

My exchange is listed as upgraded to 8Mb, while I seem to get a fixed 2Mb, when friends and neighbours living within 100 yards of me on other ISP's are getting speeds of 6.5Mb. I have not found any information to confirm the exchange is Orange LLU, so could this be the proof and my comparable slower speed be down to the issues with LLU detailed on other posts in this forum ?

WHAT CONNECTION DO I HAVE:

Upstream for LLU plus fixed line speeds will be 288

For Max upstream will be 448

Also this may help:

First sign up here for internet access on your BT account:

https://www2.BT.com/youraccount?coexistence=true

Then goto BT order tracking and sign in:

BT Order Tracking
View all your orders.

You can then see your cease orders and provide orders. The last provide order will give you what type of account you have.

Amongst possibilities are:

(ADSL) BT IPSTREAM HOME 2000 - Fixed 2Mb
BT IPSTREAM MAX
BULK LLU LINE SHARE PSTN

It doesn't really help show what connection you're on. I'd say more likely not LLU but the only way to be sure is ask Orange.

Sorry Keith, but this did not work for me, however I tried PRThomasUK advice in :-

which confirmed that I was switched to LLU on 6th Feb.

My current speed of 2Mb is the fastest I have had, so maybe I should consider myself lucky.

I upgraded from the 1Mb to the upto 8Mb in October last year, as soon as Orange offered me a faster speed and I have had a 2Mb connection since, but I know neighbours who are getting over 3 times the speed I am getting.

I have thought for a while that I was on LLU, especially as

quotes me a speed of 2Mb when I enter my phone number only, but a speed of over 3.5Mb when I enter my postcode and house number only.

Not sure why link did not work, I put it in another thread and someone got it to work.

The link of PRThomasUK eventually takes you to the same place.

If yo are getting 2Mb on LLU you are not doing too bad for Orange LLU, the best will be 2.7. Obviously for up to 8Mb it is not good enough.

If your stats show:

Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 2272 288
Then Orange have you on a fixed 2Mb line

Does not make sense to me unless they updated records and did not cease Max.

If you just produced those stats and with that speed everyone would say you were on Max.

In another thread someone has come up with:

The info from BT seems to go further than you suggested:

I do not know what that means either.
