OK after a unhappy few months with Bulldog,we decided to go back to wanadoo and take advantage of the new upto 8megs speeds. We changed back over to our BT line in NOvember last year, and a few weeks later our connections with wannado went live. Not at 8 meg,but at a nice steady 2 meg.Anyway as the months rolled by we noticed that the change your package page in the members centre said it was still currently dealing with an order. Also we noticed we hadnt had a bill for 3 months so several emails and phone calls later,we was still not being billed.ANyway April this year our first bill came out and with that it opened up the change your package section.GREAT! 8 meg here we come.So when i went to change my package to the braodband max package,it had a warning on the bottom of the page saying this would upgrade my speed to 1meg What???Im already on 2meg,so surely thats a downgrade.SO i phoned up wanadoo to comfirm it wont downgrade me to which thet said it wouldnt.Well guess what Im now paying £27.99 for a 1meg connection I have phoned wanadoo several times to complain, they say its down to BT.So i phone BT who run a line check, they say my line can only handle regular 1meg(was already on steady 2) and upto 4meg on Max.Which is what i thought i was on.So i phoned wanadoo again today to tell them this, they say the 4meg MAx is for BT packages, and im stuck with 1meg for now.So i ask for a MAC code to change to another comapny. The teleperson on the other side of the line gets all cocky and says your with s for 12 months yet So i said i would cancel my direct debits and move companies,to which she says fine but i wouldnt be able to get another connection for 12 months from any supplier
ADSLmax is a BT Wholesale 'up to 8Mbps' product which ISPs can retail to their customers on exchanges which have been 'ADSLmax enabled'. Wanadoo don't currently offer this to their customers. The older BT Wholesale products which offered 'up to 2Mbps' are still available at almost all exchanges.
Broadband Plus is a Wanadoo product which offers 'up to 8Mbps' at exchanges which have been Wanadoo LLU enabled (utilising Wanadoo's own LLU kit in the exchange) and 'up to 2Mbps' at other exchanges (utilising the older BT Wholesale product).
CORRECTION : Mark(alby28) is on the Failsworth exchange, which is Wanadoo LLU enabled.
You seem to have suffered from systems problems at both BT and Wanadoo. There are other posts on this forum and elsewhere which indicate that some lines which handle(d) 2Mbps now say 1Mbps on the BT checker.
It would be interesting if you could paste the results from the BT checker here - hiding your phone number of course (see link below).

anybody got any ideas?
First of all don't cancel your DD, at least until your 12 months are up in November. You'll be opening up a can of worms.
Wanadoo won't even consider upgrading you to 2Mbps until BT's number checker says your line can handle it.
My exchange already is wanadoo LLU enabled Ok my GF has just phoned them back with a copy of our original email saying we was all set and connected at 2meg So we are trying to break free by saying that they have broke our original contract of 2meg
Meanwhile, if your exchange becomes Wanadoo LLU enabled then you should automatically get an upgrade to the highest speed your line can handle.
That doesn't seem to be the case - I was upgraded from 2MB to 8MB - after the upgrade the line was only running just below 2MB- slower than the pre LLU.
Of course 2MB is better than the 0MB I've had for the last few months

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 4Mbps or greater.
The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
Amd heres what samknows says.
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, you already have ADSL on your line. To move to another broadband provider you need to obtain a MAC (Migration Access Code) from your existing provider.
The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
Wanadoo LLU
Please select the options on the left for more information about broadband availability at your location.
You are approximately 1.40km from the exchange (straight line distance).
As I've said on another thread this has been happening a fair bit recently, thought it was just a glitch for Wanadoo for the first couple but after checking the official BT checker it comes down to BT being the root cause.
I have no idea about the line signal stuff so I'll let the others advise on that.
Sorry, I hope the info is useful to other people. Have Wanadoo confirmed that you're on LLU?

Good luck.

I've seen that exchange mentioned elsewhere on this site. Search for a post by Sean.
Depends what you mean A high noise margin is good because it decreases sensitivity to noise.
But you're right that it would be lower if you were on LLU and if the line was running at it's max. stable speed.
You would expect the line speed management kit to (gradually?) increase sync speed (and therefore reduce noise margin) until the margin was down to about 6dB.

This thread could do with some input from an insider on how Dynamic Line Management works on Wanadoo LLU.
Your Livebox stats suggest that you're not on LLU. Have Wanadoo informed you/confirmed that you are?
Wanadoo havent confimred it.I have had the email saying my upgrade to my new package is complete, which it the broadband max package.Which is upto 8meg and i guess is LLU
Heres a copy of my original email when we first signed up to wanadoo.
Great news, your phone line is now ready for 2Meg broadband. This is the fastest speed we can provide, unless you've chosen Broadband Starter where you can only get a speed up to 1 Meg. Go to www.wanadoo.co.uk/time/speed.htm for more info on this.
If you've joined us from another Internet Service Provider, don't forget to update your computer settings with your new Wanadoo Broadband username and password, you'll find them below.
The techie bit
Now you can set up your modem (or Livebox) using the simple set-up instructions that came with it. Don't forget, if you do get stuck you can call us any time of the day, seven days a week. Broadband Starter customers call 0905 050 5151* and Broadband Plus or Max customers call 0870 220 2002**.
If you need any help, go to www.wanadoo.co.uk/help/id/7016.htm or give us a call on 0870 010 2462* or 0870 1900 162* if you're on our Broadband Starter package 7am - 11pm, any day of the week.
It could always be worse..I live less that a kilometre from the exchange:

However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our initial test on your line indicates that it is VERY UNLIKELY your line will support a reliable broadband service, with current technology. However, an order for 250Kbps broadband speed will still be accepted, but an engineer may need to visit who will, where possible, supply the service.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
