Hi having been with freeserve, wanado, and now Orange i thought their service was good. ive had bb for 2 years through a speed touch 2 mb connection and at xmas saw that i could be upgraded to 8mb, so i did. all was well with speeds up to 7.5mb and a very stable connection untill feb 10th (the date i was migrated) when my connection started to fail and i was informed that my modem was not suitable for such speeds and that Orange would send me a live box and all would be well again. since then ive had even worse connection problems. orange said this was to do with my exchange and sorted it out 48 hours later. then my speeds got worse: tonight 0.2mb. ive spend the last 2 weeks talking to everyone and anyone at their call centres with very little help.this is some of my connection imfo but i dont really know what it means any help please.
connection mode G.DMT
type FAST
noise(db) 28.2
attenuation(db) 31.0
attainable download 7392
rate downstream 2272
rate upstream 288
i live 1.24km from the exchange.
can i have better speeds?
the people living next door to me are on Sky bb and BT bb and they get speeds of at least 2mb.
also is there any other way to get in touch with Orange other than their 0870 010 2462 number as im getting no where fast talking to their indian call centre.
I don't know if I'm missing something but I find what you are saying a little confusing. You seem to be implying that you upgraded at about xmas to 8 meg and download speeds were good. But then I find your about the speeds going down following a migration on Feb 10th. To clarify:
(1) When excactly did you upgrade to 8 meg?
(2) Is the upgrade you mention the same as the migration you mention?
(3) If the upgrade and migration are not one of the same can you be more clear?

From these figures you appear to be on 2 meg fixed service so you will never get anything more than this.

sorry about being unclear it was late , i was tired and need to rant to someone.
1. i was upgraded to 8mb in november, speed and connection were good (5mb to 7.5mb)
2. around 10.2.07 problems started and orange said it was because my speed touch modem couldnt take the 8mb connection. i also found i had been migrated at the same time (didnt ask for this)
3. orange said a livebox would sort my problems out and sent me one.
4. since installing it my speeds have fallen (0.2mb to 0.6mb) and the i keep getting disconnected.
what i dont understand is if id already had 8mb why cant i get it now.
why did they migrate me as id had no problems with my old connection.
will the speeds / connection get better.
what do all the test results mean -- sorry but im not very technically up on this stuff.

im on the Ashington exchange in Northumberland. its not far from me...less than a mile
thanks for your answer, i though as much after reading these forums.
if i could get Orange to answer me i would feel much better but they just keep telling me to wait and see what happens. if things dont improve soon ill have to change isp as i cant use the net as i want to with such slow speeds. ive thought about going over to Sky as its only £10 per month but i dont know if Orange will let me out of my contract.
