I’m on the unlimited downloads “up to 8meg” service. The service has only had a few periods of outage in the 6 months I’ve had it so that’s not too bad.
However – the router connects between 6000-7500 kbps – therefore supposed 8 meg. However when I do a speed test, the pipe is never faster than 2 meg a second, but recently every evening speed tests are coming back at 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 meg a second. – and basically not fast enough to stream video over the net which I like to do a lot.
I know I could phone them up and shout at them, but that won’t get me anywhere cos of:
a) the person on the other end of the line wont understand what I’m trying to say
b) if I do get through to a native Englander, I know infinitely more about ADSL and network connections that they do.
c) theres nothing they can do techie side to actually fix the problem, as it’s a contention issue i.e. loads people logging on during the evening to do their shopping and nicking all the bandwidth.
So....
Was looking for someone on here to recommend me another isp. Preferably one which has speeds up to 8meg if not faster, and don’t have monthly download limits.
I know that with broadband you generally get what you pay for, but I’m looking for something which has a consistent connection of at least a couple of meg so my footie watching ain’t interrupted.
Grrrrr!
and how can i find out if i'm on this infamous LLU or not?
I had the same issue recently and after a few weeks of being fobbed off I cancelled and moved to Sky. I save £18 per month and get a steady 6.6 download and 0.6 upload.
I understand that Sky will accept MAC codes and your transfer can be seamless (total downtime around 30 minutes), but I did it the hard way - cancellation and then 3 weeks of dialup before my new Sky service was switched on.
