Windows often standardizes the length of password style boxes so you can't tell the length of the key/password used. Best thing to do it type it out in word or another editor or copy from the livebox config pages and simply paste it in as needed.

Another thing to try is to change the livebox security to WPA only. By default it runs WEP and WPA which some things don't like.
this is being caused by the wireless settings on the laptop. basically, once u can get around the 24 key length security key problem on your laptop, i can see it working right after that, the livebox only supports 26 digit key lengths, and cant be changed, as it will always come up with an invalid key length if you try to shorten it
as elhana posted, put the security to WPA only.
also, go to you mums PC, and go to network connections, go into the properties of the wireless network connection.
Go to the wireless networks tab.
Find the livebox in the prefered networks.
go to the properties on that.
changed the network authentication to shared.
data encryption should be set to WEP then.
