Please could you let the visitors to OrangeProblems.co.uk know the method of providing feedback to Orange regarding the Barefruit.co.uk failed DNS query redirection trial, which has been imposed upon a small number of your broadband customers.
I'm sure you will agree that correctly collating feedback during a trial period of a product or service is essential. Especially as you will no doubt be considering rolling the barefruit.co.uk service out to all of your customers in due course.
Barefruit have stated that Orange will decide upon the roll-out to all customers, and the method of opting-out based on the feedback recieved during the trial period. If you do not inform your customers whom you have chosen to include within this trial, of a method of providing feedback, you may be misled into thinking that the trialists are not experiencing any problems as a result of your imposition of the Barefruit service

Dear Mike,
Thanks for your further enquiry. You are correct, the proposed Barefruit
opt-opt bypasses one of the Orange DNS services. Our service to Orange is
currently a trial, to a sample of users, and for this reason Orange have not
developed an opt-out.
However, should the trial be rolled out across the whole user base Orange
will make a decision on opt-out for customers who do not wish to be included
in the Barefruit service based on feedback received during the trial period.
The Barefruit opt-out service is used when an ISP does not have an opt-out
in place, as is the case with the test at Orange.
I hope that answers your query, let me know if you need anything else.
Kind regards
The Barefruit Team
Thanking you in advance for a timely response
Mikea
P.S. Please could you also let your customer services department know that this trial is in existence, rather than them being confused and informing customers that they do not support Barefruit.co.uk email accounts.
Great site by the way...... lets hope it is actually being taken notice of.
My story. I am a web developer. I am learning to program sites using ASP (in short a language for making interactive sites etc).
A few months back I found that if I programmed something wrong on one of my sites that instead of seeing the error message I was taken to a page of 'recommended links' etc etc containing the Orange branding.
Being well aware of how the internet and DNS works I called customer service to tell them that whatever this 'new service' was that I did not want it as it is important in my line of work to see these errors so that I can ascertain what I have done wrong.... all part of the development process.
I was told that they had no idea what I was talking about and to call technical support.... deep breath
I then get through to Tech support (after a long wait) and after explaining what was happening he said he could help me.... then started to ask me loads of stuff about my PC. I told him that I was not going to go into all the stuff he wanted to know as this was not related to my pc and was a DNS issue. After a long hard battle I had to speak to a supervisor... who, thankfully, knoew all about what was happened and advised me that I have been placed on the 'barefruit trial' on <whatever date here>. Wow.. I was so chuffed because finally someone knew who it was... furthermore he said if I call during office hours the matter could be dealt with by escalations who can take me off the trial (he read this of the computer infront of him.
Well... when I had a spare FEW HOURS I tried to do this and after overcoming the 'go to tech support first' hurdle the matter go sent of to excallations. They credit me a month broadband as a sorry and said that they would get me off the trial.
So far so good..... but to date I have not been removed. I emailed Orange with a snotty email and they replied:

Dear Lee,
Thank you for your email and please accept our apologies for any
inconvenience caused in this issue.
Unfortunately we cannot remove customers from the Barefruit trial as we
do not currently have the facility to remove customers from this trial.
This situation may change in the future but at present there is nothing
concrete to suggest that this will happen.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.
Kind Regards

How annoyed am I!!! Kept waiting all this time for nothing. I have now asked for a MAC code so i can move (without penalty as I am still within minimum term).
In August 2006 EarthLink teamed up with Yahoo and Barefruit to redirect web browser users accessing nonexistent domains to a page containing sponsored search results [continues...]
