Had live box installed on Monday26th FEB by Microtechs.Works sometimes but spends most time flashing '@'.If i dial out on any phone it makes a connection & stops flashing letting me log onto the net/outlook express, for short period (anything between 1 minute & a couple of hours). Is there a fault on B.T line/Orange broadband line? I dont have phone socket near wired pc but use extion lead from another room (could this be causing problem).I cant go on making phone calls every time i want to go on net.
That problem just screams filter setup, though it can also be faults on the phone line itself too.
Are all the phone sockets in use, with exception for the point the extension plugs in, filtered? Try just one filtered phone and the livebox through a filter and see if there's any difference.
If you don't have the PC on does the light do a similar thing? If so try just the livebox in without the extension cable and see if the light is any better, if it is then it could be the cable causing the problem.
Hi thanks for reply.I have 3 phone sockets in the house.Main in living room with Sky plugged in.1 in kitchen with phone in.Last in bedroom with extention into spare room to livebox. All 3 have filters on.When man from microtechs came only the phone & extention lead were plugged in.He tried livebox in extention 1st had a connection then lost it.Tried livebox in kitchen socket (9" away) still flashing & unable to connect without dialing out first.I have tried unplugging phone,Sky,extention lead & swapped filters around but still get same result.Even with pc off '@' light flashes away merrily.
If you unplug everything else and connect the livebox into the main socket and try two different filters and it's still the same then it's probably a line fault. There's been a similar case on here, let Orange know what you've done and ask for a line test for an intermittant connection. It should hopefully pickup the problem so BT can look into it.
Thanks agian.Unplugged everything.Changed filter on extention lead (livebox end)connected livebox.Plugged phone in,plugged Sky in (both un filtered).'@' flashed then stopped then started flashing again.Dialed out to stop flashing '@' (lots of noise on phone line) & stayed connected. So unplugged phone, put in a filter replugged phone (to try and cut phone noise).Left Sky unfiltered.Only stayed connected for 10 minutes before '@' began to flash again. In last 24 hours '@' been flashing 23 hours 50 mins.Lost connection 3 times while writing this reply.I have not tried livebox in main phone socket as microtechs tried the one in kitchen with same result.

Well I'd say try without the extension, just the livebox and a phone in one filter into the main socket, it needs to be done before a line test anyway. If that works maybe it is the cable.
Just tried filter into extention(livebox end) connected to livebox, everything else unplugged.Connected 1st time solid '@'. Stayed connected for 2 hours. Will put filter in kitchen socket, leave for ten mins then plug phone in.Will do same in main socket for Sky tonight. I'm not to hopefull of a long connection though. I am a bit afraid to move livebox down to main socket in case i cant reconnect it later being a novice .
Hi Elhan
Went right back to basics and reset all filters.Your 1st answer (screams of filter setup) was spot on.Now been connected for 24 hours with no problems. Many thanks for your help.Just one point, when people spend so much on buying a pc why doesn't a 2 quid filter have a l.e.d. or something to give some clue as to whether it is workng or not.It would save a lot of frustration.

Well filters will be made in bulk, anything that adds to the component, integration and associated costs would really push down their margins. That and although it's a neat idea few people have them where they can be easily seen and it's just another way for something to go wrong.
