Had this problem for nearly two weeks now and initally knew something was wrong when xbox 360 kept freezing during online play!
was it my xbox? NO
was it my router? NO
is it my Orange broadband connection? IT MUST BE!
I achieve speeds of 2.6 Meg during the day but as soon as the evening comes my connection drops to a miserly 0.1 meg! It remains at this speed until after 00:00!
So I've called Orange and they are doing a line test for me of which I will find the results out on Monday.
and it says there that there is a "compatibility problem with your line"
This must be the reason for my slow connection right? I'm going to call BT tomorrow to ask what services I have on the line and why I have compatibility issues.
What could the problem be and how long will it be till it's fixed?

Hello robbo747
...and welcome to OrangeProblems.co.uk

This simply means that the test has detected that you already have a broadband connection on your phone line - which is your Orange broadband connection.

Hi and thanks for the response.
I thought that may be the case so I enetered my neighbours telephone number to check there line.
They have BT broadband and they do not get the incompatability message, in its place it just says "ADSL is available on your line"

With that info and the speed it probably means you're on an LLU connection. Some checkers will report that as an incompatability.
You are approximately 1.27km from the exchange (straight line distance).
However, your line is currently unbundled by an LLU operator such as Be, Bulldog or Easynet (SMPF LLU). Moving to another provider may require a cease and re-provide, which may result in loss of service for up to two weeks.
Could this be the problem? It is saying my line is unbundled by an LLU operator, but Orange LLU is unavailable?
I'm getting frustrated at the slow downs in the evening, as Sky have LLU enabled on my exchange, would anyone recommend migrating to them?

Hi robbo747
Be careful with the information on samknows.com
It is a very good site and offers a huge amount of resources BUT... it is not updated as often as we would all like.
Therefore, you're best looking at our ISP list and phoning the ISPs you are interested in and finding out what is available.
The samknows.com project is huge and very time consuming which is why it gets out of date quite quickly. There are regular updates (see the home page news) but this information is very difficult to come by.
As Admin said samknows does get out of date, but it's down to the LLU providers being tightlipped about the availability which is why that info can often be wrong.
If your upload speed doesn't test as between 288kbps and 448kbps then I'd say you're very likely to be on an LLU connection, but really the way to be sure is by asking Orange.
