Hello Futures_Dull
Thank you for your post!
We have also heard that Orange is to feature on BBC's Watchdog programme on Tuesday 27th February 2007 at 7pm from other sources!
Could be worth sitting in to watch. Apparently it is regarding the up to 8 Meg speed issues - i.e. why people are only achieving under half of this speed on LLU.
If you would like to comment on the programme, visit the BBC Watchdog website here.
hopefully by this, Orange will pull there finger out of their pocket and do something about the LLU connection problems
I would not think so.
Like most subjects that Watchdog chooses to air, they make good viewing at the time because they contain an element of sensationalism. At the time they make good programming for watchdog but are normally forgotton within a week or two. All Orange will do if they are pulled over the coals tonight will be to ride out the storm and hope that any bad press goes to ground within a week or two which it probaly will. The proof of the pudding will be whether Watchdog does a followup in a month or two. My guess is not as the sensationalism that this program thrives on will have waned.
Well personally i hope Watchdog drag the money grabbing bas***ds over the coals !!! ... they deserve no business at all with their attitude.
GO GO GO WATCHDOG !!!
And while your on Watchdog, ask Orange why they expect me ( and im sure lots of others) to pay for something im not getting and something that did NOT work !!
thank you.
LEts hope they do something positive for all you guys who still have to suffer them.
They didn't really mention Orange specifically. Talk Talk, Sky, Tiscali, BT and Orange were the ones they featured but it was more a general jibe at the industry as a whole rather than anything specific.
It does highlight what the competitive market has created recently, costs not moving much but broadband prices still coming down. Something gets lost somewhere.
Yes they mentioned a few ISPs, but by the sheer amount of ISPs available these must be the ones with the most problems/complaints- including Orange. This, along with the news bullitin gives me a big smile, because now there will be more people seeking answers to problems- and more people coming here. It will also mean those ISPs which did not feature in this program will be those vying for those wanting to leave the feature ISPs- hence Orange will have to make some serious changes in the way they treat people in the following weeks.
I do urge people to fill out the survey, because I really think being the worst ISP is something Orange truly deserves!
From this, it highlights for me how greedy and inconsiderate the market is, with statements of fictious speeds, poor service, and underhand tactics to keep hold of customers its no surprise at all that things get lost in the name of profit.

Orange's statment to BBC Watchdog:
Orange Broadband wrote:
"Orange aims to provide the best value and most reliable broadband service in the UK. We launched Orange Broadband last summer and have worked to ensure the vast majority of customers receive an excellent level of service. However, we are aware some of our broadband customers have experienced some service and technical issues over the last few months. When these have occurred, we have worked to rectify any problems swiftly and effectively.
"We pride ourselves on giving our customers a service they can rely on and, if things do go wrong, we work to put them right as fast as possible. In the event that a customer is not happy with our service and wishes to switch provider, we will ensure they can do so smoothly and with minimum disruption.
"We acknowledge that some of our customers may have had to wait longer than normal to speak to a customer services representative over recent weeks. We have therefore brought in additional staff to support the existing teams in our contact centres. Orange already has a 6,000-strong customer services team, across mobile and broadband, and we're constantly reviewing our resources and working shifts to ensure staffing meets customer demand.
"Our focus is on getting things right for our customers, and we shall continue to work on improving the levels of service we offer."

As Sheep454 rightly posted above, the BBC Watchdog programme is conducting their own survey on broadband internet service providers (ISPs). To take part in the survey, and we strongly recommend you do, visit the link below:
rofl, i read Oranges statement, it made me "lol" quite a few times, i dont see how they can release a statement like that, which is clearly a bunch of lies... im looking forward to the results of that survey
I left this message on Watchdog's site for their broadband survey, on behalf of my poor sister who is a long suffering member of this appalling service:-
She's in contact with Offcom, ISPA etc. and battling it out legally.
Here's what we left on the Watchdog survey site:-
Intermittent connection, slow and often unable to connect for days upon end. BT tested my line - all okay and was told fault lies with Orange service.
Had Three independent PC tech's look into my PC, the modem and connection, PC and modem is perfect and set up correctly. Spent hours on tech support helpline and fobbed off with incompetent assistants. I was made promises which were never fulfilled, contract was renewed without my permission. On a few occasions they actually lied to me! I wrote many letters of complaint to no avail. I cancelled my direct debit because I am paying for a service I never received and have been threatened with court action. Despite new laws passed to prevent companies refusing to give MAC codes Orange will not give me my MAC code - keep making excuses. This has actually had me in tears. Still no broadband connection after a month. I have discovered a website called www.orangeproblems.co.uk for disgruntled customers but Orange simply do not care. I hate them more than words can express.
PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MARK ON THIS SURVEY. I KNOW WATCHDOG ISN'T PERFECT BUT ANYTHING THAT CREATES BAD PUBLICITY! LET'S SEE THESE BA**ARDS TOP OF THE LIST FOR WORST BB COMPANY [/i]
"Having read them all it seems they've all gone to the same PR company for a damage limitation statement."
Hello tvman - you seem to know what you're talking about and `Damage limitation statement' is going to have me Googling tonight. Thank you for the reply.
Further to my previous post, I would like to add that as a professional PC technician, who installs broadband for people on a regular basis, I feel qualified to state my belief that Orange Broadband is the very worst of ISPs. I know that the rest of them have their own horror stories from their customers but I have to say that AOL, NTL, Tiscali, BT, etc. - none take the biscuit like Orange.
What happened to consumer rights? It is so easy to change your gas and electricity service but not one's ISP - it makes my sister and I, so angry everytime those silly, doddering characters appear on the Orange adverts.
Anyway, I don't want to get off topic as this is about the Watchdog survey. I share the sentiments of others in this forum and cannot wait for the results of the survey. Remember folks that we must have solidarity if we're going to take on these giants and like my Dad has always said `The bigger they are the harder they fall'.
Take care all of you and don't let them grind you down.
