Hi all,
I have just bought a new Toshiba Laptop with Vista OS installed. I find that I am unable to connect to the Internet via my “Livebox” Orange broadband. I have tried by means of the laptops wifi, and the “Inventel” USB adaptor which I have been connecting my old laptop with, which by the way connected o.k.
I can connect using the Ethernet Cable. When connected this way I went to 192.168.1.2 to the livebox settings to validate the settings hoping that would work.
When I switch the laptops wifi on it shows the Livebox in network connections but will not connect. When I try by means of the Inventel cd which loads O.K but cannot find the Livebox (in pairing mode). I have also a PC connected via wireless which is working ok using a Inventel” USB adaptor .
You'll need to alter the livebox security from it's default.
Connect back into the livebox and go into the config.
Configuration > Advanced > Wireless
Change it to either WPA only or WEP only. WPA is more secure providing all your adapters support it, the inventel one does so that should be fine using it too. Submit, apply let it restart and try connecting up again using Vista.
It may do but usually you just tell the others to reconnect and re-enter the key, if needed, to get them back online. You need to change it to whatever the security they'll all support, WEP will definitely work for them all but WPA is more secure. I'd say try WPA, if it doesn't work for one/some then drop it down to WEP.
