Some time ago I realised I had a member@... address as well as the one I've been using since first signing up with Freeserve for a dial-up account.
And this was the address that Orange had been sending important stuff to - such as changes to terms & conditions, and suchlike.
I only realised this when I was checking my emails via the webmail thingy as Outlook Express wasn't collecting them (as is Orange's want from time to time).
So I added the address to my accounts in Outlook Express, tested it and it seemed to collect OK. (No errors, in other words.)
The other day I had to collect my email via webmail again, and noticed that yet again there was a host of emails from Orange that I'd never received. But what I don't understand, is all these emails were sent to 'my' member@ address.
Why didn't my Outlook Express collect them? The account is checked along with my various other Orange (and non Orange) addresses every time I collect my emails.
Is this some subtle way of Orange 'encouraging' me to check my emails by webmail? If it is, why on earth would they want me to use that method anyway? To visit their site perhaps and maybe sign up for one of their phones or something? (Like, yeah, I'm really gonna want one of their phones...)
I just tried sending an email to my member@ address (not sure if I tried this before!) and it hasn't come in yet. But it was only five minutes ago. I'll repost and say if it does or not.
Sorry if this has been discussed/answered before. And especially if it's clearly pointed out on Orange's website!! (LOL, I haven't bothered checking, but somehow I doubt it...)

Oh, re another thread - so *that's* why my group emails have been having problems lately. Maximum of 20 addressees. Fantastic. I note that Orange didn't tell me about *that* in the rubbish they'd sent to my member@ address.
So I checked using webmail - and found Three emails sent to my normal address that weren't being collected by Outlook Express! (No errors in Outlook Express BTW.) But still no sign of the one I sent to the member@ address.
After logging out of my webmail I tried Outlook Express again - and this time it downloaded all the emails.
Except it also downloaded an email for my wife (she has her own XP account). I presume this is because I had removed the "xxxxx@" bit of the address in my accounts?
Well, that method is no good for me as I can't be collecting my wife's emails. (But now I know... ;-)
What's going on? Did I unplug a blockage by checking via webmail? Or was it a co incidence do you think?
You can use any name you like before the @ as part of your email address.
As you've found if you remove the xxxxxx@ part from your account name it will download all messages for that whole account. If you setup an account using member@ then that should grab all the email to that address, keep a check on it as it should do that from now on.
Hmmm... I've managed to send an email to my member@ address and picked it up with Outlook Express. But I had to send it using a non-Orange address. The one I sent earlier today from my Orange address has disappeared into the ether.
Odd that the emails that Orange have sent to that address haven't collected in the past (I added member@ to my OE accounts months ago).
