Some of you will have read my other thead "Can I use another Wireless Router?" but I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some set up instructions from start to finish to set up a wireless connection without bringing my desktop downstairs and connecting it to the livebox with the ethernet cable? I don't have a suitable laptop so the only pc I've got is the desktop, but having already connected to the livebox through the ethernet cable at the weekend I set up the livebox with no security and could connect wirelessley without too many problems, but as soon as I set up any security at all, I get locked out and get the "acquiring network address" for ages, and then get limited or no connectivity.
So I've deleted the Orange software, deleted the drivers for the pci card and cleaned any other unnecessary stuff and would like to give the livebox one more try, because you guys seem to know loads more than Orange, I thought I'd ask here?
First of all, move the livebox upto the pc instead of the other way around, it doesn't require connecting to the phone line to establish and test the wireless connection itself.
Connect via ethernet,
Log into 192.168.1.1 through the line (default username and password are both "admin"),
Go into Security > Wireless Connection,
Copy the WEP key and paste it somewhere so you no longer need to type it in,
Go into Configuration > Advanced > Wireless,
I assume the card can support WPA so set it to WPA only,
Submit and apply it,
Wait for the livebox to reboot and end with fast flashing @ and slow flashing antenna,
Attempt to connect prefrably through windows and paste in the key as needed.
Hopefully you're then connected and can still view other config pages without the ethernet being plugged in. If so move the livebox back and see if it will reconnect ok once back on.
Elhana, thanks so much for the reply - I didn't realise I could move the livebox around instead of the PC
I'll try those steps when I get home tonight. I assume the card can support WPA, but I'll check - I only bought it 2 weeks ago and just made sure it said Wi-Fi on the box
Before I perform these steps, should I re-install the drivers and software for the card?
I know it sounds like I'm a bit of a numpty over this, but I'd rather check that I'm doing everything correctly - otherwise I'll just continue to chase my own tail as I have been doing for 2 weeks
