I have a 6mb connection with a Speedtouch 330 ADSL modem
(please refrain from laughter!)
I'm running Windows XP service Pack 2.0 and have recently performed a nice clean reinstallation of the O/S
All the drivers have been installed including some nice open source virus protection and spyware removal packages.
Now here is my problem when browsing the internet I am randomly disconnecting after a period of time.
When I try and reconnect for some reason my password has changed to something else and I get a ppp has been terminated error grrrrrrrrr not impressed lol.
The connection has been setup manually following the guidelines off Oranges website which includes making sure the TCP/IP settings and LCP etc are configured as they should be.
I have downloaded the latest Speedtouch 330 fast ADSL2 drivers which in theory should support my nice 6mb line only problem is it isn't happening lol
So the connection randomly bombs out I have no way of checking the modems idle setting due to it being a USB device
I have checked the connections, replaced the ADSL filter,
And have come close on several occasions to kicking the living daylights out of my Speedtouch 330 modem.
What is the deal with the Customer Support guys? at least employ somebody who knows what they are talking about and can problem solve I was expected a helpful response not some numpty dribbling he's words whilst trying to read from a script
I'm at my wits end highly p****ed off with the customer service and desperatley need a solution before I tear the rest of my receeding hairline out arrrrrrrgggggggghj! lol
You could check the disconnect options to make sure they're not the cause.
Control Panel,
Internet Options,
Connections tab,
Highlight the speedtouch connection click settings,
Click Advanced,
Make sure the two tickboxes are unticked,
Ok 3 times.
See if that makes any difference.
I assume for your description of the problem that the lights on the modem don't change or flash for a time when the connection drops?
The lights don't flash the internet just disconnects when i try and reconnect my username is ok but for some strange reason my password changes and I have to reenter upon reconnection
The time of disconnection varies the longest I have been on the internet so far has been 40minutes

To make certain it isn't at your end uninstall the modem drivers and everything to do with it look in programme files if the speedtouch folder is still there delete it then do a search searching for anything "speedtouch" delete anything it finds associated with it whatsoever then empty your recycle bin reboot you will need to do this to start a complete fresh installation. and then reinstall just the high speed drivers dont bother with the Orange cd (make a note of your email settings beforehand as you will have to re-enter them manually) check what elhana said in a previous post then try to connect if its still does the same then you know its at Oranges end.
It will take you all of 5 minutes 10 the most but at least you will know which end it is.
Good Luck
