I am at the end of my tether with Wanadoo and their equipment and hope someone can help. I have a Wireless Box and adapter. Had to ring helpline to get it working when first installed. WEP key just would not work. Spent hours on helpline who eventually got it working .... THEN Wanadoo downloaded their updates on Feb 28 to the livebox and the adapter stopped working. Spent many more hours at my cost trying to sort it, eventually got it going BUT they had to turn the security off at their end (don't know what this is) for it to work and then it kept disconnecting. Rang them again, spent more time on phone and they sent me first a rescue disk, then another adapter.
Still no joy. Wrote complaint letter and got email address for me to set up a time for technician to call me which they did BUT it was a trainee of about 14 who hadn't a clue and spent another 1.5 hrs with him directing me with his supervisor directing him. Unbelievable! Eventually agreed to send me another livebox and adapter (14 days later still not received) had to phone again and was delivered last week and guess what still the same problem. Cannot get the WEP key to pair with the adapter. Error 500!! I am tearing my hair out as helpdesk all seem to be trainees or foreign. They try to help but really haven't a clue .. they are just reading from their screens.
I originally asked if I could use the wireless adapter built into my laptop and they said no cause it wouldn't work (suspect they didn't actually know what this was).
Incidentially on original installation problems with helpdesk they told me to uninstall my Panda Antivirus cause it was incompatible with Wanadoo. I explained that I didn't have the CDRom as it was downloaded online and therefore wouldn't be able to load again plus added problem of not having virus security if I was even able to do this. They suggested I go to PC World and buy McAfee!!! I have been paying for a service I have hardly used because their equipment is rubbish but cannot seem to be able to speak with someone with some technical knowhow apart from repetitious installing, uninstalling, changing channels, etc etc. I have entered the WEP key about 200 times (both the previous and new one) and they just keep asking me to do the same thing over and over every time I ring them. Sometimes I have to prompt them for the next move cause they are lost.
When trying to pair the adapter I have moved it around all angles including hanging it on the box itself so it is not a question of distance.
Does anyone know if I can pair my inbuilt wireless adapter with the livebox and if so how do I do this. (I am not that IT literate so will need instructions for dummies).
I have read that I can cancel my direct debit and contract because they have not provided service promised but have also read other very worrying stories about debt collectors and harrassment. I am trying to avoid having to go through this all again with another provider although when my 12 months is up I will be off. No wonder they have a contact cause they know their service is appalling.
Would appreciate any help from IT people who have any suggestions. I just can't bear the thought I having to ring Wanadont again. It is doing my head in.
Thanks.
For setting up the internal wireless try this guide.
You may however get similar problems from the sounds of it. The same issues with 2 different adapters and 2 different liveboxes suggest one thing. Interference.
Error 500 has 3 major causes, typing the WEP key wrongly, anti-virus or firewalls blocking it and signal problems.
Have they taken you through changing the channel? For that you'd need a wired connection to access the livebox, you log into it through the configure livebox icon, configuration pages. (Inventel username and password by default are both "admin")
Access security, wireless connection. Copy and paste the WEP key over to be sure, change the channel and check the wireless. You may end up going through a few before it works.
Worst case senario, something in your area may prevent all wireless connections.
Thanks for help and info. I will try using my inbuilt adapter later. Re the channels. I changed channels with the last 2 adapters but haven't tried with the latest one. (This is my 3rd adapter). It just won't accept the WEP key. Had the same problem with the 1st one but helpdesk managed to get it going (after hours on the phone) and it was fine BUT then they downloaded new software to update the box and that was the end of the adapter. Another bright spark (about the 4th one) managed to get it going except they had to turn the security off. (This was not my firewall so have no idea what this is re the adapter). Then the connection kept dropping out if I wasn't actively online and I had to click on the wireless manager and CONNECT manually each time. Also it didn't dial up automatically when booting up like it should. The WEP key is correct, I have checked it and double-checked it (both the 1st one and the 2nd) and my firewalls are all disabled when installing. I will however try enabling the inbuilt wireless adapter. (By the way can I activate it whilst anti-virus is enabled or do I have to disable it during this procedure and does the box need to be in a certain direction of the laptop - I don't know where the wireless adapter is located in the laptop for talking to the box)
Many thanks
As long as it's near the Livebox thats fine, ideally anti-virus and firewalls shouldn't hinder it and it they do should give options on what you want to do. Some don't though which causes problems.
In regards to the security turning it off, from the livebox config, is never a good thing, anyone in range of your livebox can then connect through your internet with no restrictions. Also share any files or part of your system(s) and they can access those too!
Still no joy. Have done what you suggested at least 10 times and all I get is LIMITED OR NO CONNECTIVITY. This is using the Wanadoo adapter.
Can anyone talk me through using the built in wireless I have in my laptop. Will this talk to the Wanadoo Livebox or will it only work with another piece of hardware I need to buy?
I am also assuming that the info re: PSP is not related to me. I gather this is a gamebox or something.
Sorry, the guide didn't work but thanks anyway. ( I tried it 4 times).
My adapter is an Inventel Model UR054g (R01) V1.1 (does this mean anything and is it the one you are referring to?)

Hello rosebud
Firstly, let me say that I have read all of the above and I sympathise totally with your situation. This sounds extre, ely frustrating.
As Elhana has said, try the instructions on the link provided. DO NOT FORGET (as I have dealt with this problem numerous times) to press the button for your wireless card - On your laptop somewhere will probably be a small button which is pressed to initiate the wireless features. This must be pressed in order to communicate with the livebox.
The situation you relay above does sound a little strange! Hopefully others on WanadooProblems.co.uk will be able to assist....
Hi, Didn't know about the button and still not sure where it is exactly or where to switch on. Will get back to that later.
The button I have been using to pair the adapater is the No. 1 button on the Livebox. This has been unsuccessful. The link indicated this as it was a Wanadoo adapter.
Now onto my laptop. I have P1 and P2 buttons and when pressed I get a Launch Manager (for both buttons) which says "Wireless Device Boot Status" = WLAN Always on. Sorry to be so thick but I am not very IT literate, is this what you are referring to?
Judging by your comments I can actually use my inbuilt wireless adapter to pair with the Wanadoo livebox? Can you confirm? If yes is this the button you are referring to? If yes is this the launch manager? If no what other buttons should I be looking for?
Right, have done everything following the guide (including taking out the adapter) but still getting LIMITED OR NO CONNECTIVITY ie cannot connect to net (server not found) when I take the ethenet plug out. So.... wireless not connected.
BUT
Under the Network Connection Details I have an IP address which isn't the Wanadoo one. ie 192.168.1.1 When I try to select it to change it, it won't let me. Is this part of the problem? If yes, How do I change this? Also the default Gateway is blank. Should there be something in here, what and how do I put it in.
Was that address set as the actual IP address or something else? As that address is actually the address of the livebox itself.
The livebox is supposed to set the IP for each connection to it in the form:
192.168.1.x
x=10-100 ish
Try checking this.
Go into Network connections in the control pannel,
right click the wireless connection for your internal wireless hit properties,
hightlight internet protocol (tcp/ip) and hit properties,
make sure the two automatic options are selected.
A miracle happened this morning. Turned my laptop on to find a bubble telling me I am wireless connected!!! Still cannot believe it but yes I am now wireless using my built in adapter. (Not Wanadoos) It appears I had to reboot for this to kick in but it is early days as I don't know whether the connectivity will be constant or whether it will drop out. We shall see.
Meanwhile thanks for all your help. It was great to actually get advice from others who knew what they were talking about and gave the advice for FREE. I have spent so much on phone calls to the helpline. This forum is great and Wanadoo should pay you for fixing their problems.
I will obviously be switching from Wanadoo when I can so can any members recommend a good provider with good helplines and no contracts. Preferably with local call centres. I read somewhere that Nildram was good or Metronet? Any suggestions
By the way another dummy question? I presume I need a livebox of sorts to use my built in wireless adapter. When I send back Wanadoo's livebox what do I buy then? Assume I need to get something similar from a PC shop. Can you tell what I need to get and preferred brand?
I thought it was too good to be true. Wireless connection dropped out, low or no connectivity. So false alarm, no miracle after all and back on wired connection although my network connection says my broadband connection is disconnected but Local Area Connection is connected. What does this mean?
