I have just got Orange broadband with Livebox. I have been using the famous Bramley Apple tutorial to set it up on my Powerbook and have managed to set it up an get a connection via ethernet, but when I come to go wireless, Aiport doesn't recognise the network...
If it's not seeing the livebox at all it could be a signal issue. Log into the livebox and go to Security > Wireless Connection, try changing the channel dropdown, give the livebox a minute to settle and try connecting again.
Thanks for that - what do you mean by changing the channel dropdown? Somebobody has suggested that I reconnect via ethernet and look at the wireless settings, make a note of the WEP key the livebox is using and transfer the key to the Airport settings - how would I do that and does that seem like it may work?
If your Airport is listing the livebox then yes, checking the WEP key may help.
Connect back on ethernet,
Browse to 192.168.1.1,
Click the link and enter the default username and password both as "admin",
Go into Security > Wireless Connection,
Copy the key and paste it into the box when trying to connect.
If it's not listing the livebox do the same as above but on the page with the key drop down the top box and select a different number for the channel to see if will work on another frequency.
Thanks Elhana - i will try that tonight. I have been copy and pasting the WEP key into the Airport box when trying to connect, but it just won't accept it. I will try other channels on the configuration pages and let you know if it works!
Do you know what security the livebox is currently set to? WEP and WPA, WPA only or WEP only? If you're not sure follow above but check...
Configuration > Advanced > Wireless
If it's on WEP and WPA try changing it to WPA only, if that doesn't work also try WEP only.
...and remember to press the "1" button on the livebox so it's in pairing mode.
Yes I tried a few things last night and it does sometimes list the Livebox (not often) but when I enter the WEP it doesn't allow me in! I have it set up to WEP only on the configuration pages. I will try your suggestion tonight, and also try changing the channel...
Thanks so much for replying - don't seem to be having much luck elsewhere!
Ok well that sounds a lot like interference which changing channel will hopefully solve. It's usually best to change it by 3 or 4 at a time rather than just go in sequence.
Again, many thanks or your help on this. I'll give this a try tonight. I'm also going to try connecting my PSP and Xbox 360 (via Xbox live) wirelessly. Hopefully I will have some success...
Elhana - many thanks for your helpful advice. I changed the channel, as advised, to number 3 and it now works beautifully! Maybe this should be included in the Bramely Apple tutorial?
