pleased to find this user group as the Orange website help section is next to useless.
My father has had a 1 meg wireless wanadoo broadband connection for over 2 years set up with a live box. Orange offered a line speed upgrade for a few quid extra a month and assurances that his connection would in now way be affected he agreed to the upgrade. On the day of the upgrade the internet connection went down. After 2 very long conversations with the customer support and getting no where he asked me to have a look and speak to them if necessary.
The inventel conneciton utility indicated that the PC was connecting but then imediately disconnecting after login.
Having plugged my laptop into the livebox i confirmed that the livebox was accessing the internet. howver, it seemed unable to transmit this at any sensible signal strength to the wireless reciever less than a metre away. after over an hour on the phone to a customer service rep who went through a standard script, she finally touched on signal strength. she decided that this must be the problem. not the line upgrade. despite the fact that i could wirelessly access the livebox config pages from it. it had worked fine for over 2 years in the same position and on the day of the line upgrade we are led to believe that mysteriously the livebox stopped working correctly. having repositioned the adapter and got no further with i decided to nip out and buy another wireless router to check it wasnt the wireless box. we bought a belkin wireless router as i have configured these for clients before, and set it up with the ISP details and all appeared to work fine. however, certain websites such as hotmail and www.if.com would not load. i use the same router at home on my laptop can access these sites, so i used the same laptop to access them using his router with exactly the same result. no site downloaded. not even an error message just a blank page.
This makes me think there must be some sort of authentication or encryption protocol on the router that i need to set in order to get it to work correctly with the Orange/wanadoo broadband service. I read somewhere that Orange use the CHAP authentication protocol which isnt supported by belkin, or that some MTU settings need t be set using a utility that isnt supplied with the router. if anyone could shed light on this i would be extremely grateful.
for the record Orange customer support was a complete waste of time and an insult to my intelligence. If i cannot get this resolved in the next day or so i will recommend cancelling the service, no doubt with Orange insisting on a full years payment. again, any info on whether they can do this would be useful.
