I have just received my Livebox and I have been tearing my hair out.
The install CD just won't work. The flash screen comes up and I click install Livebox for the first time but nothing happens I have downloaded the latest Java engine just in case that was the problem, but still no different.
I have managed to get the basic box working after reading various posts on here and I have set it up manually - haven't started the wireless bit yet.
My question is, why won't the CD work??
Am I missing anything by not having it installed?? I am running XP Home and Professional on the laptop.
I used to have a Belkin ADSL Wireless router which I found easier to get around. I can't seem to find where you set MAC address filtering! I used to have that screwed down so well security wise that I find the Livebox a bit lacking. Am I being paranoid or is it just as good and I need to look in the right places?
Any help much appreciated
PS I now only seem to be getting 2MB DL speed whereas before i was getting 6.5??
I experienced a similar issue and the only way I got around it was to open the CD in 'My Computer' and initiate the setup program manually. Once everything was up and running, my wireless connection speed also went down to 2Mbps or less and often dropped completely. I used an RJ45 cable and connected my previous Belkin ADSL router into one of the ports on the Livebox and I now have the option to connect to either router. When I choose my Belkin wireless connection, the speed runs at upto the max of 54Mbps and rarely drops below 36Mbps. Both have WEP/WPA protection.
I tried doing the setup via my computer, but had the same response - the setup screen apears, but nothing happens when I click setup. If I double click I get the help screen up
I would rather not have to use the Belkin as well due the the amount of space/wires etc, but if I have to I guess I will try, but am a bit worried about there being a clash with 3 firewalls inc windows (which I always used even with my Belkin)
Is there anyway of changing the speed back again. I tried a cople of test and they said 2MB, then a 3rd one said I still had 6.5MB
The cd doesn't run because of the latest update to flash, seems to have messed up a bunch of things. If you remove the latest version or update the cd should then work, next time you visit a flash page it should ask you to update again.
I have just gone to Macromedia to check I had the latest player and I have, so I can't really understand why its not working I couldn't see anywhere to update it.
The help and exit work ok, but not the 3 main options - am I missing out by not having this software installed?
BTW I have now changed my filter and CAT5 cable to the ones supplied and my speed seems to be nice and fast again

The latest update, as in the current version the site said you had, is the problem. If you removed it for the moment you could then run the software.

No, unless you have a wireless adapter from Orange then you don't need the software and even then it's not required to fully install it by running the CD.
I have already connected my Centrino laptop via wirelss with no problems at all.
I was just wondering if the Orange software gave you indication of connection speed etc, but from what you have said, I will stick with the set up I have now.
I will read through the froum when I get home to find out how to setup the MAC address filtering that I used to use on my Belkin router. This forum is a great source of info
Once again thank you.
PS the other thing that Orange messed up on was my login. On the paperwork it said my user name should end in @fs, but that didn't work as my actually user name ends with a bb1 as it was one of the very early broadband account with freeserve, although I thought it did work initially, but didn't after the FW update

The software is "passive" all it does it install some extra drivers so you don't need the CD, install the recovery systems and give you the Orange toolbar in internet explorer.
You need to look in the livebox config itself for connection speeds, it's in the system info section, fairly near to the top. The PC will only supply the speed of the link between the livebox and itself which will hopefully be the full 54mbps, though it varys depending on the signal.
They look pretty much spot on for the sync speed. Nice and healthy stats too, interleaving on but that's not something to worry about unless you get disconnects or varying sync speeds. Wireless can potentially be slower but usually there's plenty of bandwidth to keep the speed up, otherwise just keep an eye on things.
As I didn't use the install CD will this affect the time it takes for the Talk to be activated. I was wondering because how do they know I have started using the Livebox, especially as I am using a slightly different user name as supplied in the letter (mentioned in my earlier post)?
Does the box send some info to them that lets them know?
The talk service is completely independant, it requires no software on the PC or any real action on your part, unless something goes wrong. Once connected the livebox sends details to a server from which it then downloads details of the talk service and activates it providing those details are ok. It's supposed to be a completely automated system which takes a couple of days to go through and activate properly.
