Man, how many times have you seen this as a thread title?
I received my livebox and connected to it wired with my pc. However, following the intructions found on the net as well as the installation disk, I have come across this problem.
Using WEP only and configuring the wireless network for WEP, Windows informs me that I have connected to the network (i.e. the wireless network provided by the livebox). When I try and install the software to allow internet connection, the process always gets to the part with the little spinning grey arrows, and says Failed to Connect to Livebox, possible problem, Your firewall is acitvated. Now, its not activated, infact, to remove this problem I disabled the firewall serivce on the laptop. Using ipconfig I can see that the wirless adapter has connected to something, and has an ip addy and a subnet mask. Its just that the Orange software insists that it cant connect to the livebox. Also, I cannot connect to the livebox admin screen from the laptop, just says server not found. When looking at the configuration of the livebox from the wired connection, I can see that the laptops wireless card is listed in the wireless devices, so I guess that means its paired?
This laptop is used at school where it connects to other networks. These are present in the network properties but are set to on demand. Also, the proxy I need to use to connect to at school is disabled. Everything else (TCP/IP etc) is set to auto.
The Intel wireless card has been autoassigned 169.254.2.244, with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0.
The windows ip configuration is
Host name ... GCMSStaff6 (the name of the computer on the school network)
Primary DNS suffix. . . : (just blank)
Node Type ...: Unknown
IP routing Enabled ...:No
WINS Proxy enabled ...: No.
The Intel wireless card has been autoassigned 169.254.2.244...
Thats the most important bit of info. Means windows is generating an "automatic private address" because it can't talk to the livebox correctly.
As it's listed in associated devices it means the WEP key you've used is right and a partial connection has been established. Try going through the following:
No harm in right clicking the wireless connection and seeing if windows will repair it itself.
Try manually setting the IP by:
Right click the wireless, go to properties, select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click properties. In the boxes enter...
IP 192.168.1.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 195.92.195.94
DNS2 195.92.195.95
This should then go to say connected. Try accessing 192.168.1.1 through IE, if it won't ping the livebox, still nothing then change the settings back to automatic.
Last of all try changing the livebox channel incase it's a signal problem. Within Security > Wireless Connection change the channel, best to change it by 3 or 4 each time, submit, reconnect wirelessly and see if you can access anything or ping the livebox.
Run the Ethernet Recovery program. For this to work on my computer, i had to enable my broadband connection anyway (even though it doesnt work...). This is the only way it allowed me to select my ethernet card during the recovery program...
Ok, so once the ethernet recovery program is done, but all the cables back where they should be...
Open your "configure lthe livebox" program, which should be on your desktop. Password and username are both "admin"
On the following page it loads, Click on My Services, the click Change next to Internet...
Enter your internet connection parameter details, these should be reset to something like ppp......
Hopefully, once you have done this, the net should work for you once you disable then enable the connection..
Note this is the only way i fix my broadband connection, which tends to go every 10 days or so.. It takes about 10 mins to fix...

If your livebox is doing that, and fixes itself ONLY after a recovery (not factory reset or anything) then you can get a replacement livebox no problem. Call Orange tech, explain exactly what happens and what you have to do. If they try to say you need a line test refuse and argue, because its not the line (as you probably know) Eventually the agent should speak to the FET team who will replace your livebox (that is, if a recovery is indeed the only possible way to get your livebox to work agan)
