After months of BT, tiscali and Orange faffing about (separate story!) I finally got connected to LLU 8meg last weekend. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Orange repeatedly told me I should be able to get around 6meg, and my livebox apparently connecting at the same or slightly higher, I'm very rarely able to achieve download speeds above 2meg, and never above 3.
I'm on the Stamford Hill exchange. I'm a bit worried that this might be a contention thing, and I'll never be able to get decent speeds - is this the case, or is there anything I can do to change it? I've seen plenty of people having problems getting similar speeds, but never with their router synching at full speed...
Your not alone... It would seem that Orange have major problem with their LLU (not that they will confess to it.) I have exactly the same problem, however Orange seem to think it's a line fault. My router connects at 8128kbs, never drops the connection and shows minimal errors (in fact, probably less then when on the wanadoo 1Mb service) However my download speeds vary between 640kbs & 2500kbs, averaging out at around 2200kbs which seems to be very common amounst LLU customers!
It's worth mentioning that before the exchange "downgrade" I was connected via ADSL Max and had a download speed of around 4500kbs constantly.
I've complained to the ISPA, received the following response from them on submitting the 2nd complaint...

Sounds like the same problem im having, if enough of us complain to Orange + the ISPA with the same problem, they ispa might get sick of us and make Orange fix it hehe...
