Hi everybody now stop kicking that Livebox around the room and check this link to France Telecom yes its them that own your Livebox and read about the takeover last year 2005
You will find that it was not just wannadoo being reshaped and organized but France Telecom also had to be reorganized also this had to be a recipie for desaster
But look down the page at the (Effective customer relationship) and wonder where did it all go wrong
Also look at the services provided in France and ask why only them maybe the UK is not a priority maybee we should be emailing France Telecom about the service we get in the UK
This is what France gets
Next-generation services
The birth of the new Orange is also highlighted by the launch of next-generation products and services. In France, these include:
Unik, the 2-in-1 telephone: at home, Unik connects automatically to the Livebox via WiFi and all calls become unlimited, 24-by-7. Away from home, Unik operates like a traditional mobile phone. Unik requires an Orange Broadband subscription, a Livebox, and a special terminal (starting at 99 euros). It will be available in September, 2006.
Orange Optimales, "all included" packages with a switched line, the 8 MégaMax broadband Internet service, digital TV and 24-by-7 call plans.
High Definition Voice for Livebox customers: unlimited IP calls with unequaled sound quality.
High Definition ADSL Television for "HD Ready" TV owners.
Unlimited TV-on-mobile packages, with the TV, Totale TV and Sport options.

FT are the equivilent of BT, they own the network, exchanges, etc and Orange is the largest ISP in France, because of that they have a lot of money and a lot of clout over what they can do. Orange nroadband in the uk are a smaller operation than France's, much smaller, with less revenue and profit of course that makes the uk a lesser priority.

"Unique phone" being the UK version which is currently on trial over here.

As run by FT they can include the line rental and call plan as a converged service, TV is an extra they're working on over here and we'll probably start hearing more on that soon as it needs the faster speeds which are being provided now.

Not certain on this one, technically the livebox talk service should be no different between the UK and France.

Mentioned above, needs the faster speeds which France has had longer so they've got a head start. The BT vision service here is very very close to this as they use a differently branded livebox and the same system for the TV stuff.

I don't know much about the mobile side but I believe there are some 3g video packages with Orange already.

Their maybe less revenue but the profit margin will probably be similar. I think a company that places a lesser priorty on one part of its business will have a knock on effect on the customer base.

Not strictly true Elhana. Orange like others have the option to take over the line rental and call costs

In the long term probably yes, short term for much of their "grand plans" it relys on LLU and although it's cheaper to run it costs an awful lot to build their own network from scratch rather than build on top of the existing phone network infrastructure like they can in France. With higher costs for that it'll slow their expansion on other fronts as after all they will have a budget to stick to.

Sure they have the option to create that service over here, never know it may be just around the corner.
In general though the UK is much more open with Ofcom making BT open up LLU and complete on an equal level generating a very competitive market. France on the other hand is ahead in technology but openness seems to be a little behind, after all over there Orange have the majority of the market.
