thought I had left Orange on 20th December after giving my MAC to BT (getting the MAC a whole other story), now find that the MAC was not valid to BT so went back to Orange. turns out that having asked for my MAC from Orange and spending half an hour with a sales retention person turning down all his crazy offers to stay,I hadn't actually said 'stop my account you Orange person'. so now I have to wait 30 days for my account to close from today 30th December- by which time my MAC will have been expired. and so we go round
will I ever get out of Oranges clutches?

You will never escape. Orange Customer services didn't actually listen to anything I said, so long as I was paying for the call. BT never fixed the line, Orange would not cancel my account. So I cancelled the direct debit and went to NTL - no MAC codes invloved, no BT involved. Think Orange are giving the BT Broadband services a back hander; where-ever money is involved there is corruption and you are paying for it.
