Trying to send out emails using a NON Orange email address (my own domain) externally hosted email address. Orange told me that I must use there SMTP server address to send out if I was behind an Orange connection which I am. The trouble i'm having, is that they leave my outbox so the server IS getting them, but nothing happens, they go into a black hole and never get forwarded to the recipient. Any ideas ???? Getting email in is fine, just sending out is the trouble.
One possibility is that the recipient's mailserver has blacklisted the Orange IP range & is not set to bounce. Have you tried several different recipients? (i.e. on different domains).
The easiest way to check the mail server's getting the message and processing it correctly is to send one to your own address. If it disappears then something odd is going on. If it comes back then Orange are getting the emails, do as bobbear said and see if you can send emails to anyone or just specific ones.
I too have my own domain for incoming email, and I had to use an Orange server on port 25 for my outgoing email as Orange have blocked port 25 for everything but their own servers. I found there were certain recipients (but not all) who I couldn't email - including myself - the emails just vanished into the ether with no 'undeliverable' receipt or any other indication that they'd failed.
Reading through the other threads here, one member came up with a low-cost, low-hassle solution. He suggested signing up with AuthSMTP (www.authsmtp.com). This I did (you get instant access), and all my troubles went away. For £14 a year, you can send 1000 emails or up to 100MB of data a month. There are larger monthly quotas available at higher cost if you need it, and you can instantly upgrade at any time. You can choose between Three ports - 23, 25 and 2525, so you can easily bypass the port 25 issue. I can't praise this service highly enough. It's certainly well worth a look.
None of this was necessary when Freeserve and Wanadoo were running the show, it's only since Orange have taken over that my problems started.
You should do yourself a favour..ditch Orange the company is a complete shambles they are only interested in you giving them money. The rubbish service they provide is incidental to this end!!

IMAP must be supported by the server to work correctly. Usually normal ISP's don't provide IMAP access. IMAP works in these sorts of situations because it by default runs on a different port therefore bypassing the port 25 redirection.
