Hi, I'm trying to upgrade from Orange dial up to Broadband but cannot work our if i'm being given the run around by customer services. Basically i recieved the modem and kit and soon after recieved an email telling me my service has started and i have 30 days to try it before my contract starts. However despite setting everything up the ADSL light is flashing with error no dial tone. I've called customer services Three time and got 3 completely different answers as to when the service will start plus one guy told me that there is some problem and a line test is required. Is there any way i can check with BT to see if ADSL has been switched on and i have a problem or that the issue is they are dragging their feet in activating my service (despite having starting my 30 days trail) Its not looking promising, perhaps i should bail out now? thanks for any pointers.
UPDATE
Apparently, line has been activated but still a flashing ADSL light. I've decided to quit while the goings good and i,ve cancelled my DD in the 30 day trial period. I tried everything to get it working, straight into line box, reinstalled/downloaded new modem driver, different USB ports etc but no good. Am i likely to get a repeat of this with another ISP? or are Orange specialists in making life difficult?
What people need to realise about Orange is that they are NOT an ISP
They simply lie, make excuses and don't care - speaking from experience and backed up byt the thousands of posts on this site.
Avoid them at all costs and go to a decent ISP like Idnet.
These are fantastic - 6 months now with a rock solid connection, fast setup, customer services that are knowledgeable, caring and speak English.
When I joined Orange there was about a five day period between the Broadband being activated and me actually being able to use it. I too got all the usual reasons...I got the feeling that I was actually waiting for someone to enter my user name and password into the system.
Once that was done, no problem, delighted with the service so far. I know how desperate you get during the days you can't connect though, especially when they never admit it is a problem at their end. I would be a bit worried that having let Orange activate your line, you are going to have problems getting someone else to take it over.
