migrating to BT, but getting my MAC code from Orange was a problem. apart from the ridiculous offers the customer retention dept made (12.99 for 8 meg inc phone calls etc) when I asked for the MAC code, getting it was another matter. no show after 48hrs as promised, so i phoned up again and threatened to complain to the relevant authority. the operator gave me my MAC over the phone immediately........so why cant they do that when you first phone? sod Orange and all who sail in her - the slow periods, the backouts, the ridiculous sales offers....BYEEEEEEEEEE
Don't get too excited until your migration is complete. It still took 3 months and several hours on the phone to Orange customer fob off, ermm, I mean support, before I finally succeeded in escaping.
Now they are sending me emails threatening to disconnect me because I haven't paid them for this month, and trying to charge me an admin cost of £5. More phone calls - and told them straight no more. Next time they will be hearing from my solicitor.

another way of putting that which is less shakespearian is that their uptake seems to have exceeded their resources and management which it definately has. however obtaining the MAC code can take a maximum of 5 working days according to ofcom. although 3 months to migrate is ridiculous i hope someone got fired for that. I really do.

Well, the sweetener for me (until the papers expose them) is that since I finally managed to migrate, I've had a consistent service, with a consistent sync speed, better SNR and a consistent D/L speed (regardless of time of day).
When I was with Orange I had variable everything - and all of it varied at the bottom of the well, so I can take my time taking them to the cleaners now.
I'm kinda wondering how they're gonna feel when they try disconnecting me from a service that they don't supply. That WILL be interesting
Migrating is not the end of your Orange troubles. I finally got a MAC code after making a couple of complaints to the ISPA. That was back in October and they are still taking money from me each month.
Unfortunately they are using my debit card, and the bank can't or won't stop the debits. I am back to trying to deal with it through the ISPA.
Several phone calls to Orange "Customer Services" later, and despite promises that I will be refunded, all I have recieved from Orange is a threatening, patronising letter demainding their sh***y Livebox (which never worked) back.
I wish to hell they would go down the pan and do us all a favour.

I can't see why your bank can't or won't cancel direct debits. It's your account for christ sake, you just hit them with a letter telling them not to make further payments to whoever from such and such a date and that's it!

It's not a direct debit- they charge my debit card. A direct debit would be easy to deal with.
Anyway, I made a third complaint to ISPA and recieved an auto response email to say that some-one would call me (from either Orange or the ISPA) within 3 working days. That has not happened yet, despite my complaint being made about a week ago.
