Since going onto the livebox broadband I can no longer access my website, I cant upload or download and there is very important stuff on there I need to use right away!!!
I was FTPing onto it right up until I went on the livebox. Its a freeserve webspace and i need to use it desperatley.
When I try and log in to uploads.webspace.freeserve.net I cannot see any folders and cannot upload or download.
Have tried contacting Orange but they are useless.

Don't know if the answer to a similar problem I experienced will help others or not, but when I switched to Livebox from my old and trusty Alcatel USB modem, I found that whilst filesharing, I could only download from others, but my stuff wouldn't upload to them.
I wrote to Orange, and the first reply was of no help at all, cos the bloke said nothing to do with the Livebox was causing it, which was obviously not true.
However, I wrote again, and the next geezer or gal (no name was given) was much more helpful. Here's what was said - and the solution worked for me! ...
"Unfortunately, Orange does not currently support file sharing via the
livebox as this not an element that we are trained on. I can advise
that you will need to configure dmz on the livebox. In order to
configure this you must first of all have to disable the livebox
firewall. You can find instructions on how to this below.
-double click on the 'configure livebox' found on your desktop (if you
do not have this icon you can reach the page by entering '192.168.1.1'
in to the address bar of your browser)
-click on the link 'access to the configuration pages'
-enter 'admin' as both username and password
-select 'security' from the options on the left hand side
-select 'firewall' from the drop down options
-select to 'low' to disabled
-click 'submit' or 'apply change'
Once this is done, you can access the dmz configuration via the
instructions below.
-from the same configuration pages select 'configuration' from the left
hand option
-select 'advanced' from the further list of drop down options and the
'router' from the further drop down list
-you will see a 'configure dmz on this computer' option which will take
you into the configuration properties"
DMZ often helps in those situations but it's really just port forwarding where everything is sent to one computer so it's going to send what you need somwhere in all the junk. Probably better to try going through the guide at http://www.portforward.com
Thanks for the information - sorry I've been so long in replying. I took a look at the www.portforward.com site, as suggested, but my pesky Livebox isn't listed there, and so it's like a minefield for someone like me who is not a real techie.
Since my last posting, I have encountered an additonal uploading problem.
Configuring DMZ cured the problem of file uploading to other users on dedicated filesharing clients (WinMX and AudioGnome), but the damnable Livebox simply will not permit uploads of files to my contacts on Yahoo Messenger and Windows Messenger. They operate perfectly when using my old Alcatel USB Broadband modem, so it seems to me that a setting in the Livebox configuration needs to be changed.
Orange "Customer Help" and "Technical Help" are essentially peopled mostly by robotic morons with set answerrs they seem to glean only from the website we can all access. They don't seem to have the brainpower to go and ask someone on their team who might hold the answer, but simply keep trying to say that there is some things in Yahoo Messenger and Windows Messenger which need to be changed, but I disagree, otherwise why would my old modem not fail to upload files? Downloading files from my contacts is fine under all circumstances, including via the Livebox.
Any clues, please? Anyone? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR to Orange!

Port Forward does have the answers, it's under Inventel (manufacturer of the livebox) and WanadooLivebox.
Here's a direct link for you...

On there is has listings for both Yahoo, MSN Messenger and WinMX. Doesn't mention audiognome but if you can get hold of the ports it uses, should be in the documentation or their forums, then just follow similar steps to the others it shows.

Thanks a lot, Elhana. That was a very quick reply!
I've just taken a quick gander at the page you've posted (thanks for that) - it looks complex at first sight, but I'll probably have a crack at working my way through the instructions, and let's hope it'll be successful. I'll go careful with what I change, and will ensure I write down the settings I'm about to change. Gimme time to psyche myself up for the task, LOL.
I agree with Elhana here. In general port forwarding/firewall rules is the way to go here, rather than DMZ/turning off the firewall. I'd put it a lot stronger than

It's crazy to advise permanently turning off the firewall or setting a DMZ (or even both, see above, LOL) for every issue.

Yes, John, I can see your point. Strange thing is, I can still use ZoneAlarm as firewall protection, and it won't stop file uploading in WinMX or Audiognome.
