I had a Belkin ADSL modem/router which provided excellent signal strength every time. Now I have connected my new Livebox and the signal strength is always low/very low. I have heard that people have connected both their old routers with their Liveboxes. Is this true? If yes, how can this be achieved?
Yes it can be done. You could just try it and see, some routers will auto sense the setup and just work straight away.
Probably won't though, other option is to turn off the DHCP part of the router so the livebox takes over that and connect the two up with through an uplink port or autosensing uplinkable port on the router.
If you're not bothered about the VOIP service then why not save time and hastle and just use the router and leave the livebox out. Also I believe belkin use a different default channel so changing that in the livebox may help improve the wireless connection by itself.
Well, well, well what do you know? I set up my Livebox (wired) to my PC upstairs and connected 2 laptops wirelessly with initial difficulties. Through pairing, this was resolved, however, as I mentioned before, the signal strength on both laptops was always VERY LOW with speeds of less than 20Mbps and occasionally dropping the link for no apparent reason.
I tried changing the channel number but without success.
I previously had a Belkin modem/ADSL router, which alway provided excellent signal strength. I therefore decided to piggy-back the Belkin to the Livebox connected via an RJ45 cable and my upstairs PC is still connected to the Livebox upstairs and the 2 laptops are connected to the Belkin wirelessly at very good signal strength and at speed of up to 46Mbps.
It seems like the best of both worlds. The real test will come when Livetalk is enabled.
